what brand of thermostat have you guys found to be the BEST brand to run. I am tired of the Murray, Duralast and house brands I am getting. What about Stant. It used to be a good brand. have they shipped it off to China too. I have a 440 engine.

I've used the Mr. Gasket brass thermostats and have never had a problem with them for thirty years in 440's and now a hemi. The stant stats I notice open a little later, I get a higher temp. reading and after that it drops back to normal.

Now days it is a crap shoot to get a good thermostat. I have a 408 and have went through 3 bad thermostats. All three froze close and would not work. They were Stant, Moroso, Murry. Now using a Mr. Gasket which I checked in a pan with water on the stove.

The Stant website claims that 82% of their thermostats are made in the USA.

I check every one in a pan of water on the stove. Last go round, with a NAPA brand, I went through 3 before I got a good one. Get one from your local Mopar dealer. The last GM one I got for the wife's car was spot on.

I know what you mean, Bill. Seriously, maybe try the dealer? You'd have to figure out what that stat fits in "modern dealer" parlance so they can look it up. That may be a dead issue, I don't know

Yeah, I am thinking that the thermostat may have been what the problem was with this issue I just had with it climbing to 210 at the drive thru the other day. Don't want that during the parade. I just bought a Milodon high volume thermostat from Summit. I guess it will be better to run a high volume one with a high volume water pump. The reviews were good on it anyway.
