I bought some emblems and they have two posts on the back with what looks like a plastic piece slipped over the cast posts. Do I need speed nuts or do these just press in the mounting holes? The emblems didn’t come with anything else.

I had to do something similar recently and used the speed nuts with the gummy tar stuff on the back. not sure if thats what you need here but worth a shot

They're OEM on '74 Challengers. I've never seen them on Dart Sports but do look god there too. I do remember some type of nuts, but it's been too long ago. I have a decal version on my Dart Sport scoop.

My "Dart Swinger" emblems on my 70 dart mount on the quarter panels using those plastic retainers. I bought the car and it had been sitting for nearly 20 years. I power washed the dirt, grime, moss, and the emblems right off! I had to buy a package of the retainers to put the emblems back on. The old ones were dry rotted.

Drill a tight hole for the plastic insert.

Push insert into hole.

Push emblem pins into inserts.

Friction plus a bit of expansion of the outside diameter of the insert holds them in so don't get the holes too big.

Does anyone have pictures of one mounted from the back side?

I didn't ever find a picture. But if you drill a hole, push the plastic insert in and then the emblem. You'll never get it. The plastic is an extremely tight fit on the pins. I had to boil mine to soften them up to slide them onto the pins. Then used a bit of lube to push the emblem onto the car.
So you need to drill holes in your panel, lube the plastic retainers and pop them into your panel

Ya I can’t even budge those plastic pieces on the pins. I think I’ll go your route and drill holes then lube the plastic retainers and pop them in. Thanks for the help. If anyone has pics from the back side that would great.

You're kind of asking for them to fall off if you do it that way.

You might as well cut the plastic off and use speed nuts.

I understand what you're saying but I couldn't even get the plastic pieces to slide off the studs.

How do you manage to get the plastic retainers to stay on the panel while you jam the emblems in? My emblems have held up great for years with the way I did it. I have a few plastic retainers left and I'm missing a "DART" emblem from my car so I can snap some pics of the holes if necessary.

Why would his new emblems come with the retainers already installed??

That would be great if you don't mind. Ya my initial impression after looking at the plastic piece was that the thickest part at the end closest to the emblem presses through the hole and when it snaps in past the hole on the inside it locks the emblem on.

Your correct. It's simple to do.

with the plastic retainer off there is give in the plastic that allows it ti be pushed through the close tolerance hole.

That lip holds the retainer in. Pic in post 12

When the pin is pushed into the retainer, the lip stays engaged because there is no longer any give in the plastic.
