Hello
I received the BORGESON steering box (800127)for my Barracuda 68 but I got it wrong. I ordered the model with the big Pitman arm 1-1/4 instead of the small 1-1/8. Where can I find the right Pitman arm with this steering box?

Why not speak to Pete at Bergman auto if all else fails. I know later cars can interchange with the bigger arm. I put one on a 71 Cuda with the Borgeson box and even had Pete align front end on my car after box installation.

I contacted them and wait for their answer.
Thank you

Hello,

To change this over to large, you need a pitman, idler and centerlink.

Thank you,

I don't think that is true. I just finished this conversion on my b-body. I did not realize mine had been converted to the larger 1 1/4 pitman arm when I ordered my 1 1/8 Borgeson box. I replaced the pitman arm and idler arm ( both were bad) but did not have to replace the center link when I reverted back to the 1 1/8. The holes on the center link i had accepted both the 1 1/8 and 1 1/4 pitman arm. There was a change in the idler arm on later models that coincided with the pitman arm change. This increased the length of the idler arm to correct some steering geometry issues on the early systems.

Yes but what pitman arm and idle arm choose for my car?
The others do not look like mine. You should not forget that I live in France and a bad order is a big problem for me.

Yeah I noticed after my last reply that you were in France. I was thinking of offering to swap you boxes but the shipping would be rediculous. Hopefully someone with an a body who has done this will chime in and have part #, s. I did see that firm feel has a large sector arm for you year model. I will also look at some of my magazines and see if any have a build up. I think Mopar action did a valiant last month but not sure what shaft they went with.

A bodies are different. The 73/ later center link is inverted IE the tapered studs from the older style. You MUST keep all "4" items together.......small spline, older center link, and idler and pitman arms.

Here.........clickety this......

Help with idler arm

I contacted Firmfeel for this part and wait for their answer.

I don't know about b-body or how that applies to a-body. I do know there were two changes in a-body steering linkage. The pitman shaft size changed along with how the arm(s) attach to the center link. One taped stud goes in the center link from bottom up. The other goes in from top down. You now have grease fittings to the road. 73 and later has cotter pins to the road, along with the larger sector shaft.
So there is one pitman arm design that is needed a for interchange that Chrysler never produced. The only solution is/was to change center link and idler arm to the later model design But... I have read that a aftermarket vendor now does now produce and offer the special pitman arm needed for this interchange. I can't say who/where.
My personal preference would be the correct 73 and later center link.
Please note; If yours was a 67 model a-body you would be seeking a idler arm for that later model center link ( Another part that Chrysler never produced ).
Having a 68 means you could purchase pitman and idler for the 73 and later center link from your local part stores or any vendor.

Ok,thank you.

Well I'm glad you got it worked out. When I first replied to you I didn't realize you were in a place far far away. I can see were you had a real disadvantage. I live about 10 miles from Bergman auto, so it was real easy for me to get my parts and have any questions answered. Good luck in getting her back together.

Thank you, I like my country but sometimes for cars. I envy you..

Carve the mfgr name and part number into it. A future owner of the car will thank you.
