Net neutrality affecting Fabo?

While you might not always like how government does it's job, you are undoubtedly better off because of it.
No one here ever suggested we would be better off without Government.

I would never assume you approve of everything the government does. Maybe you do but I would not make that leap just because you thought they do some things well. Hell, I think there are lots of things the government does well. They are excellent at blowing up **** with Drones! And Yeah I think we need regulations on how aircraft traverse the skies, just to name a couple.

I also assume that you have weekends, vacation leave, and some amount of sick leave right? Well, you wouldn't if your employer was in charge, you'd have none of those privileges.

My compensation is not a product of Government Regulation. It is the product of competition with similar companies.
They are not required by the Government to provide me with 31 Days a year of PTO but they do.
They are not required by law to give me weekends off either. But they do.
Federal law doesn't even require them to allow breaks or a lunch hour during a work day. But they do.
They are not required to give quarterly or annual bonuses or several other "Benefits" I receive either. But they do.
3 years in a row my cost of Health Insurance Premiums stayed flat. Costs went up for sure but my company covered the additional expense in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
I do not credit the ACA for keeping my health insurance cost flat. That was my Company.
Yes they went up last year and will again next year but I'm pretty sure everyone else’s did too.
I was out for 12 weeks in 2001 when I broke my back. Never missed a paycheck. I still have 488 hours in the bank saved.

Never belonged to a Union. Never paid union dues. Never felt the need to have any collective bargaining. Not bashing unions either. If anyone wants to belong to one, fine.
The multi-billion dollar company I work for provides these Benefits because they want quality employees and without a quality compensation package they would not be competitive.
So yeah, I may have a different opinion of Big Multi-Billion Dollar corporations.
The one I work for is possibly one of the best anyone could want to work for.
Am I biased? Hell yes. They have treated me well in my 36 years of continuous employment.
Could I be gone tomorrow? Hell yes. Am I worried about it? F*ck no.
Having marketable skills in an economy that has more high tech openings than qualified applicants is not a bad place to be.
So who is most important to my company, it's customers or it's employees?
The correct answer is both. Without both there is no company.
And yes there is competition. Between my house and the 2 across the street from me we each have a different ISP. 3 Houses 3 different Internet Service Providers!
I think that qualifies as competition.

I am certainly in the minority here but it comes from my intimacy and understanding that comes from being a Network Engineer since 2000.
Having built and rebuilt, grown, expanded, evolved and created networks over the years gives me a different perspective.
Being part of developing the Next Generation Access Networks is pretty freaking cool.
The next 5 years will be pretty amazing.
Any content, anywhere, anytime on any device.
IoT will be everywhere you can imagine.

My opinion is based on my life experience. Not saying I'm more qualified just that I have a different set of experiences that have formed my opinions.

I agree with Blu most of the time.
When it comes to A and E Bodies there's little doubt he has the experience to back up his posts.
This one I just happen to disagree with most people that only know what they get second hand at best. That is to say they do not work in the industry for either an ISP or a Content provider. They only hear what is reported by the purely objective sources that have no self interest in regulating someone else's business... Like Google or other content providers.
Yes the same content providers that are pushing hardest for Net Neutrality.
The Billion Dollar corporations that are only looking out for the best interests of consumers.

Google anything that Google has a position on and see how many hits come back with the opinion they oppose. Is it on the first page? How many pages do you have to go through to get to even 1 source that they oppose? They give you the content they want you to see.
They give you that content first and sometimes only that content.
Should the Government tell them every other answer must be from opposing views?
I don't think so. It's part of living in a Free society.
It's their search engine. Don't like it? Use someone else. That is how a free market works.

If you believe everything on Wikipedia I have news for you. Anyone can edit that content.

It should only take 4 or 5 pages to put reasonable regulations on ISP's not 400.
400 means there is a ton of crap that only a room full of lawyers can decipher.

But I really don't have any strong opinions on this subject either way... :)

everybody is focusing on the competitive speed issue while ignoring the censorship and freedom issue , here in Canada Bell and Rogers own all the satellites in fact they own most of the ones you guys use as well with Bell Canada owning the lions share , this means they can decide that instead of adding bandwidth for their increasing customer base thay can just decide what you can access and when . Believe it or not I have had this site blocked in locations serviced by Bell WiFi because the name can be misconstrued as a **** site . Bell has been attempting to get regulatory power transferred to them through the latest NAFTA negotiations because trade agreements are somehow more powerful than national law .

The same 2 companies control our cell phones here and all you have to do is look at how they do business here compared to every other cell provider in the world and you can see what this is really about , I'll give you a hint there are no unlimited data cell plans here .

Oh and there is no unlimited internet here anymore either in case your wondering .They'll start charging content providers like Joey for our bandwidth use first chance they get .

The net, it's access, & it's control is a bit complicated. I see both sides of the coin, and there are possible problems for each. Lets never forget that they never "outlawed"
R12, they regulated it out of existence because they had the power to tax the living S*#T out of it at will, nobody was going to pay $1300 for a 30# cylinder of R12 forever.
I haven't read the legislation, and I'm wary of any time D.C. gets together on a subject because They seem incapable of passing anything w/o political dingleberries attached.

^^^^^Exactly except of course much much worse , more like paying extra to opt out of sites like No Facebook 29.99 no Netflix 29.99 and probably no packages as the competition disappears the competitive pricing and inclusive packaging disappears .

PS also there is no effing way the individual pricing will be equal or less than the current all for 1 package price , you really believe that any company currently earning x amount per month is going to put forward a system that reduces their revenues by allowing individual service pricing ?

Looks like we will find out what happens next.

We'll see. There will likely be lawsuits to block this, and in either event, I doubt you'll see problems right away. It'll take time for the results to show themselves.

They say the world is ending as early as 2020, so I don't care.
If my internet goes up, I'm cancelling it,and that's that.Maybe I'll get some exercise then, lol.
Agree , I`ve been thinking about that too ! ATT just keeps geting worse, like direct t v keeps getting higher and higher.

We are back to the way the interwebs was before 2015... No more chance that the feds can pick winners and losers.

Net neutrality allowed the government to say yeah or nay to any expansion or contraction of services, certain marketing agreements between partners etc. The old web is now back like it was without the Feds having the chance to overly regulate everything in the name of fairness.

There are still plenty of laws already on the books to regulate the ways business must be conducted.

The name Net Neutrality was a feel good marketing term intended to fool the public...

Net neutrality is a set of rules designed to make Internet service providers treat all web traffic the same, no matter the source.
