Hey guys, help me with something. I'm trying to figure out if I am a social outcast because I am a car guy, or because of being a social outcast at a young age, I became a car guy (not a good one). What are your thoughts on that? Do you guys feel like social outcast sometimes because of your car collection?

Question? Do you call yourself a "car guy"? Or do other people call you a "car guy"?

Question? Do you take your car to the shop to get the breaks bled? Or do call the wife out to pump the pedal?

Hey V63. It can't be the first one because most car guys are extremely social. Look at Leno. I do think being a social recluse can drive you towards hobbies like cars. The good news is you are no longer a social outcast; you're a Mopar guy (kind of the same thing. You could have become a Cheby guy and been more popular). And now you are part of a club. I urge you to take your ride to car shows and hang out with the rest of us outcasts. You're one of us now.

Hang in there

Its other people that call me a Car Guy. I'm just a guy that happens to like old cars. When I was young, my family had Plymouth Valiants and my first car was a 65 Barracuda which was a real rust bucket by the time I got it. Unfortunately I can't work on him much anymore and I'm having a hard time finding out where I fit in.
I am thinking about getting rid of them an moving to a house in a community which won't allow me to keep the hobby.

LOL.... my wife has done this 1001 times for me :D She just helped me align the tranny to the engine so I could get the bell housing bolts started in the ramcharger....

I prefer "Motor Head"!! Or "Grease Monkey", or "Ratchet Man"...Car Guy isn't sexy enough??

I am surprised at all the immediate replies to my post. It actually kind of makes me feel a little better.
I can still fit into my cars without issue, it's being able to make the transfer I cannot hold onto a wrench for too long anymore. I am losing strength in my arms and hands. I have already lost half the feeling.

If your wife can't /won't help you bleed brakes, change out engines, remove bench seats, and most importantly,,,, walk with you in boneyards, BIG swap meets ( help drag parts out too),...etc etc .THEN either you need a new wife, or, keep the wife and get a girlfriend capable ( she needs a good garage and tools to work in),,....
Be advised these kind of women are not to be found everywhere..

Now the PO question, I guess maybe your friends are into cars that are modern and require no work, that park themselves,etc.. they have no ambition, skills, etc....

Sounds like you have the Mopar gene. That is good. Yes Mopar guys are a little different, but that is good too , otherwise you would be collecting GM stuff!!??????? HA Never worry about being a little different.

Agreed, agreed, and agreed.

I guess I never really gave much thought if society accepts me.... truth is, I don't want to fit in with most of the confused, mixed up puppets

i find myself being a social outcast because i dont believe social media is social at all
add to that my fundamental Christian beliefs and i can be a bit on the outkirts some time

doesnt bother me much though

Not an outcast but just a "car guy" The greenies may not like it much but my social circle is all car guys anyway so I'm impervious.
No social media except this site helps in my case.
I saw the Tesla-X suv on the road coming home yesterday and I could have one of those:)

I have known since a kid I was kinda "different". I was starting colts when the other kid were hunting turtles. I liked old cars before they were popular. If the girl in HS wasn't into horses, I scratched her off the possible to ask out list. Got into Mopars, not because of family ties, but because I knew those Mopar guys marched to the beat of several different drums. And I knew having a Chevy was way too easy.

Bet someone is glad to be in Fl right now!
