I'm rewiring my car (71 dart) And need help with the tail and break light wires.

Everything was working before I cut the harness. I was able to figure out the front easy by touching the wires to 12v hot. For some reason I can't get any lights on the rear of the car.

I thought the wire were,

PINK- break ights
YELLOW- map light
BLACK- ground?
BLUE- fuel sender
WHITE W BLACK CHASE- ?
GREEN- ?
BROWN- ?

I have tried downloading the manual but it dose not work on my phone and I do not own a PC.
If any one can tell me where these wires go or can post a pic of the diagram that would be great!

Thanks for your time and advice.

I'll go look at the duster and see if the colors are the same.

LOL I think I've told the story a million times now. But when I first got my car which is a 73 duster and that's what this diagrams for but quite possibly some things like the back tail lights maybe the same color? At any rate I need a wiring diagram so I just looked up 73 duster on Google and it pops up Pops this wiring diagram cool then I go down to the local Office Depot have them pop it up and print it out for me in color like the one of them shoot me a picture of and also had them in large a 3-foot by 3-foot black and white one.

Okay to me it looks like the gray wire goes to the reverse light it looks like the blue wire goes to your gas gauge the brown wire go to the stop lights the yellow wire seems to go to the dome light the pink wire seems to go to the trunk light the gray wire again to the reverse light let's see the green wire to the right or okay it's the green wire to 1 turn signal in the brown wire to the other turn signal.
Okay I voice committed all that dribble so if it sounds crazy I was looking at the map and just saying what I seen.

Thanks J par!

See your good for way more than sled info and derailing threads!

Thank you sir!

I will try and ground out the lights and see what I get.

If you need any thing made let me know. I got ya at zero cost.

Yeah trying to give you a hand here could ruin my reputation...shhhh...

I guess you figured out that unplugging beats cutting. If the plastic housing needed swapping, you can release each pin w/ a little screwdriver. Anyway, moving on ...
Since no rear lights are working, I would look at the ground. At some point in the early 1970's, they stopped relying on a sheet-metal screw to ground each lamp and ran a common ground wire to a better screw, at least they did so on the front end (noticed when I used a ~1974 front lamp harness).

Models that have double circuit/filament bulbs ( 1157 ) use the same wires for brake lamps and L/R turn. If your 71 has separate brake lamps and turn lamps and single filament bulbs (1156 ), brake would probably get the white w/black tracer.

Just spitballing here but my 73 is grounded up front too and it's wiring and that could be common to ground the front as there's a lot of grounded things up there close to where the battery supposed to be?.

Yes plastic lamp fixtures and/or fixtures mounted in plastic must have a actual wire for chassis ground path. For example a 68 of 9 barracuda front park/turn fixture has a ground wire while 67 does not have.
Majority of rear lamp fixtures are metal and use that metal to metal contact for chassis ground path. So a plastic rear fixture, ( mounted in a bumper maybe? ) would have a ground wire somewhere. There could be a ground incorporated in those fixtures mounting to the bumper with or without additional ground wire from bumper to chassis. Whenever and wherever they found that connection through hardware wasn't a dependable path, they would add a ground jumper. The little jumper at the steering column mounting is a very good example of this. Without that little jumper the horn might blow and it might not. Column mounted lamps might work, might not.
Same condition could occur at bumper mounted lamp fixtures.

This is going to sound tough, it is not meant to be. You NEED to get yourself some sort of "real" computer, even if it's a large tablet with an accessory keyboard. I'd suggest mosying around C/L and look for a good used one. This very computer is a good laptop, a Thinkpad T520. I have two, this one cost me 150. You can do better. I also have a pair of T420? T410? which cost me a little over a hundred or right around there.

Your phone "I'm told" can be setup to act as a hub for another computer, meaning, you don't have to have an in-home internet access if you can set up your phone to stream data to the computer. The point is to get something witih a keyboard and larger display that will "handle" the large size pdfs which these manuals generally are

The simplified diagrams are at MyMopar, but they don't have "all" the information about the factory harness, nor do they have all connectors

If you need something specific, like the connector above, I guess I could clip a shot out of the factory manual

Here is the factory tail harness diagram from the 71 Body shop manual

NOTE the black to each tail lamp IS NOT GROUND. IT is the tail lamp power. The turn/ stop is the "other wire" to each one

BR BRown is right turn/ stop

DGN Dark GreeN is left turn/ stop
