Was this 340 installed in a truck?

The "complete" 340 I purchased last year had a couple of anomalies, namely a front sump oil pan and two identical center dump iron exhaust manifolds (casting #3418623). Did/do Dodge trucks have front sump oil pans? Thank you.

trucks have front mounted sumps. I don't think a 340 was an option in any truck ever built but I could be mistaken. Post the vin number that is stamped on the passenger side oil pan rail and someone will tell you exactly what it came in.
 
I had a 340 in a 28 ft Pembroke cabin cruiser. It was a marine motor and I still have the MOPAR service manuals that cover it. It may be one of those
 
"Front sump" oil pans were used in pre 72 model trucks (the ones with the "I" beam front axle), 72 and newer used rear sump oil pans.
If this is a 340 with a truck pan...maybe someone put this together themselves.
 
my 68 340 came out of a 68 power wagon. (not original). No reason not to put one in if you have the motor and the truck.
 
I don't think a '73 cylinder block has a full VIN stamp, can't tell what vehicle it came in, "3" is 1973 and "G" is St. Louis, Missouri, "212185" sequence/serial number. I believe the second letter is "G" (not "C" which would be Jefferson, Michigan).

2nd digit on that block vin denotes the factory. Find out what factory, and then if that factory made trucks.

It doesn't matter. NO 340 was EVER put into a truck or van. Only cars they were installed in were A, B, and E bodies.d

Could it be possible that it was factory installed in Mexico?

I have noticed some weird things on exported cars.

While it doesn’t make sense to me to do a 340 in a truck... I have learned never to say never.
 
The bearings were dated 1982, so the motor was in some kind of vehicle in the early 1980's and used a front sump. The motor was purchased in Sacramento, California.

I was just asking if trucks had a front sump oil pan, (not believing the motor was originally in a truck) but just wondering in what vehicle it was last installed in. I am not aware of any Chrysler passenger car V-8 that had front sump.
 
Me ether. Perhaps the front sump was for what ever truck/motor home it was in last. The 273/318/340 all share the same pan.
 
No trucks but have heard of quite a few boats that were built with them. So maybe it was a marine application but probably a transplant into a truck.
 
Which reminds me, is there a data base/internet site anywhere that lists what models were assembled at each plant for each year?
 
Based on the 3 and the G it came out of the St Louis plant, and from either a Dart Sport or a Duster, as St Louis appears to have built those car lines in 73 (according to Wikipedia...) 1973–1976 Dodge Dart/Plymouth Valiant
 
so since we're guessing at this point, I would guess that the truck came out with a 318 and somebody swapped in the 340 when it was worn out (1980s sounds right) and used the original 318 pan because the car pan it came with didn't fit the truck???

I am intrigued, though, about the possibility that they were putting 340s in pick-ups in Mexico.. It isn't any more unusual than the 318 four barrel factory motors that came in A-bodies sold there....
