Anybody, besides me, see last weeks and this weeks episodes where the Kilchers, the homesteading family on this program, were getting rid of some junk cars. They had, or have, a 1960 Plymouth Valiant station wagon. Otto, the owner of these cars, said it was the oldest car in this mess of old cars. Being a big fan of these old Valiants just had to mention it.
Too bad its so far from anywhere, I'd love to have a wagon.

Yeah. Lol. My son Jason caught it before me. Lol.

He hollered, mom, rewind it! I saw a toad!

She thought he had lost his mind. Lol.

She rewound it and sure enough…a toad. Lol

Is that the bunch that had a chimney fire and the idiot was sitting on the roof , packing snow around the pipe, on an all metal roof ? They showed the underside, his old lady was spraying water on it w/ a spray bottle. You could see the plywood roof decking up against the chimney pipe ! What a bunch of dumbasses ! I quit watching after that one. They made a big deal out of hearding a few head of cattle too, big deal !

I saw Otto smashing the junk Subaru's, and did see the Toad. I have seen it before, and thought of Rani since she kind of likes those things. I doubt he smushed that one. They may do dumb things for the sake of the show, but Otto, Eivin, Atz and Atz Lee are very smart and talented people. If they weren't, they wouldn't be worth millions of dollars they made in that Godforsaken place long before the show came along.

It is HOLLYWOOD! Reality stupid tv, what else can you call it.. What amazes me is how some of those programs get such a following.....

Because millions of people like me watch it for the entertainment value. Why do some people think everything has to be a true to life Documentary

On one episode I noticed that Otto had owned a machine shop. I can not imagine what the heck these people do to make $$$, they run a few dozen moma cows, looks like they are hard pressed to even bale hay..... just wondering.
I have watched some of these so called reality Alaskan shows as I am curious of the place, like to see the scenery, BUT it must be the wettest sorriest place on Earth to live, unless you like wet, cold, snow, or the Govn't oil checks they send to every soul?? Just wondering.

I read somewhere that Otto's machine shop was well known, and stayed extremely busy because of the maritime industry in Alaska. They also have a barge business. Atz's daughter is the singer named Jewel. She has had quite a few top ten recordings. I am guessing they're worth that much because of the way they live within their means.

machine shop work or ownership doesn`t make a cattleman. Or make one intellegent enough to know how to install wood stoves.

As said earlier most of these shows are fake. It can be good entertainment if you don’t mind that but it is too fake for me. I would rather watch YouTube channels of homesteaders in BC and Alaska.

There was someone on this forum whose car was used on pawn stars and he exposed them for how fake they are. I also used to live in Pikeville Kentucky where they supposedly filmed a series on the survivors of the Hatfield and McCoy series. It’s a small town of about 5k people and I personally knew descendents of the families. No one knew anything about the show at all until a commercial came on the tv for it.

That's about like our channel six weatherman who is somewhat of a sensationalist, going on and on about a tornado over the quicktrip near me. I was standing out under the carport listening to him on my trucks radio, I could see the clouds over that quicktrip and there was totally nothing there !
I watch a and listen to a diff. channel now.

I think the Alaskan bush people's first house was like 400 yds from a Subway restaurant? They lived right on the edge of town and all the shots were looking away from town. I think that was first season. I feel sorry for that one girl they have. Shes about the only normal one in the bunch.

It is funny how the viewing public gets all attached to the "characters" in these shows!!!!! I read whr the daddy bush guy has written quite a few books (published). I guess by candle light!!
There is another show from Waco where the couple buys, restores, remodels homes and flips them. Seem like honest people, and both are pretty types. They said they were ending their show after 4-5 yrs. I guess their following was totally bummed out!!
I like the OLD westerns, the stunt men were real!!!!!

The old Man and one of his Kids were charged with lying on an application for the oil royalty checks. You have to live year around in Alaska to get them and they were living part time in Seattle at the time..Had to pay back almost $ 21,000 ..

My son and his wife live in Alaska they have one child and one on the way. they live near Haines [think I spelled that wrong] but they Live off the land been doing that for a long time. they sell what they grow in the garden and make about 1000** a year or less. they can work and make good money but are happy the way they live if the world came to an end they would be the last to know. some TV show wants to do a reality show about the way they live but my son is still thinking about doing it, not sure if he wants his family exposed to the world. And most people would say that he is nuts and is a bad man for putting his wife and kid through what he thinks but his wife is the one that took him to Alaska and is a strong woman and there 2 year old boy is a great kid and very happy. There are some people out there that are real and do live off the land and you are right about the bull **** the TV puts out. I'm gonna visit my son this summer any body want to go with me.

My son has never got a royalty check and he said he never will apply for it

I have always asked, do not judge me by the size of my home, the number of acres that it sits on, or the head of livestock that lives on it.... money does not buy happiness and never will.... we find joy in our lives where and with whom we find it.... and with God Almighty's help, it is not that hard..
Those that have never walked in my boots will never know.
