Anyone else notice that Canada Post increased the shipping rates again...

A package I've shipped out just before Christmas was $20.59 and same package size and weight to similar location was $34.77. With these rates, no way we can sell anymore.

Yup, they are pricing themselves right out of business. Shipping has gotten ridiculous over the last few years. The shippers have to be making money. Perhaps there is an opportunity somewhere to provide a reasonably priced service!

They need to pay for the racing stripes on their snails!

I’m sure they are pissed the government nixed the full implementation of community postal box service across the country. So to stick it back to peeps, they jacked up the rates.

They pass the buck to the end user....

Dam, that's a steep increase....

I just wish they would implement a flat rate system. Don't tell me my 2 lbs box costs more to ship than a 1lb box. BS!

I'd love to see Canadian flat rate boxes and also Canada to USA flat rate shipping boxes.

I just priced shipping for a 318 crank,58.00 from rock auto. 216 for the crankshaft.
Not bad. If i dont find a donor soon i may go that route.

I just sent a package that weighed 2# to a member in Ontario, first class international was $16.95, Priority was $34.95. That's pretty high for a 2# box!!

They need to cut wages and CEO salaries. I am sure there are people that would work for less then their union demands

I ship with them for everything as I find they are the cheapest between fed ups.

Shipping out of Canada is where the cost is. Shipping to Canada seems to be reasonable...

I'm sure it's time to get Canada Post to realize they are over charging and there are other players in town. UPS/FEDEX/Priority Courier all have been stepping and seem to be more that reasonable within Canada. But out of Canada seems to be the huge expense.

Don't you work in Windsor ? why not pay the toll and drop it off at the post office on Jefferson in Detroit ? Has the tunnel gotten ridiculous as well ? could always combine it with a night out in Greek town or a booze run eh !

Well there are a few issues with that. The tunnel closes every night from 8PM to 5AM. However the Bridge is open but is normally backed up with trucks daily. Some times many hours. You can't cross between 3-6pm during the week at the tunnel as it's always an hour or more to cross. Price to cost the bridge is $6.50 and the Tunnel $5.50.

Most buyer's won't pay or understand why I'm charging $15 handling fee in order to pay for tolls and gas. That also doesn't cover my time.

yeah I used to live at Bruce & University right by the GC building and cross for work once or twice a week .I was trying to suggest you could combine it with a trip made for other reasons. We used to use commercial customs at the bridge and the tunnel coming back and found there are regular times where you can just drive right across , at least that was the case in 2001-2002 .

I wonder what cities in Canada have seen an improvement in traffic 15 years later? Aside from rural areas, hasn’t the population in every city increased with not a corresponding number of highways or highways with additional lanes built? Our population has increased by 5 million over the last 15 years!

Sadly that is no longer the case. I actually work at the Bridge...so I know the traffic patterns. None are convenient. It's a good suggestion and I have shipped some large items out of Detroit to people to help with the sale.

Border traffic follows a different pattern mainly affected by politics , we used to cross the bridge before 6:30 prior to 11-9 , after we actually were able to get there before 7 because we crossed so regularly the newly added Marine Corp pre inspection knew us by name and waved us through to the clearance building , then our pre clearance again got faster as a regular so our crossing times went down while infrequent crossers were getting the monty so to speak .

PS Thanks for all your suggestions on how to solve the op's issue , you once again are providing such a helpful influence in the discussion .

The other option is of course to find a friend on the other side to swap back and forth with .But baring that we are indeed stuck with the existing system .

You’re right but you sure took the opportunity to tell us how you got special treatment which doesn’t help the OP in any way either! Unless you were assuming (careful as assuming got you into hot water before) that the OP has the same privileges you had in 2001?

As usual your too busy beaking to read whats on the page , the OP works at the bridge to Detroit he works for Canada Customs /Border Services, see unlike you he doesn't hide behind a keyboard, we all know each other indirectly .Lets not bicker in his thread I look forward to the day when we can discuss these matters in person ,feel free to pm an address and I will come to you or you can let me know next time you visit the island .Cheers eh .

i ordered a cam from Hughes engines the past weekend. shipping to Canada was $186 for a $165 camshaft. good thing i got in laws that have a place in Mesa, AZ. shipping was $19.

Quote on a crankshaft was 186,350 shipping.

Yeah for sure , I also look for the free shipping in the states deals and have it sent to a cross border shipper near me so I then only pay for the short hop , Here in Victoria I use Seawings Express based on size and weight the replacement real valance cost me 21 bucks or something like that plus the tax paid to Canada Customs at the airport 10ft walk from the seawings office , walk into customs with the manifest pay them their pound of flesh pick up parcel with receipt pay the shipping easy peasy lemon squeesy .

Yes I have noticed that the costs are going up again.I find it funny how our government increased the minimum wage for workers but everything in life like groceries and necessities have gone up too so really the increase did nothing.
