Any ideas on getting a wheel/lug nut off with a spinning wheel stud?
These are Cragar SS so I dont wont to ruin them.

Is it cross threaded? Have you tried an air gun to try and spin it off? Front or rear? Drum or disc?

I think I would try a 1/2" impact. It is possible by cocking the stud while spinning at high speed it may back off.

If all the other nuts are off you may be able to **** the stud by cocking the wheel one way or another.....maybe hit it with some "break free blaster" first. Can you sneak a pry of some type in between the drum and the wheel on the backside of the wheel so if you ding it a little it will be not seen?

Good info above. If the others will come off, you may be able to pull out on the wheel while hitting it with the air gun.

What I would do is get a high speed impact as stated. Pull STRAIGHT OUT on the wheel to lock the stud up in the axle flange and the nut will come off as long as it's not cross threaded.

Same thing happened to Dad n I. Cragars too lol. Took it to a shop and tack welded it in. Worked like a charm. We tried a few different things...sol lol

Cant get at backside to weld stud.
A good pilot drill and drill right straight into stud. Need a 7/16 or 1/2” to get it to let go.
I had to do this recently after someone destroyed a gorilla nut.
Big expensive wheel.

7 1/4” ? Pull the access cover, remove the cross pin, push the axle in and pull the c clip and slide the axle, drum, and wheel out. There should be enough clearance between the drum and backing plate to allow the c clip to come off. Yes you may need to loosen the brake shoes and replace a seal and gear oil, but you’ll have all the access to the backside of the stud and won’t mess up the rim.

Had one do that. Got ahold of the nut with vice grips and drilled a pilot hole back through the stud. Kept going larger until I could drive what was left of the stud backwards through the axle.

we were typing the same thing at the same time LOL Put a tong type vice grip on the nut to steady it. Center drill, then 1/8 drill, then 1/4 drill, then 3/8 drill, depth just beyond the length of the nut, then use a lug wrench with a piece of pipe/brother on it if needed to bend and break whats left of the stud.

A little work but as an alternative to vice grips maybe use a doaner deep well socket. Modify the drive end for needed drill size/sizes and weld an arm on it to control the lug spin.

You can maybe also get a box wrench on it to keep from spinning for drilling, if angle does not allow, use open end.
