Need some good combo/matched suggestions...

2500 stall would be perfect

And part numbers too would be a great help

Thank you

B&M makes flexplates (sfi approved) that makes the use of a neutral balanced converter OK

The converter itself is something that needs a ton of information behind it in order to get the correct stall speed for its intended useage.

All aspects of the car should be know to make a choice.

All the converter companys will have a sspc sheet. Its in depth. Tire size, rear gear, vehicle weight, camshaft, use of vehicle, ect. Or you can buy an off the shelf converter. Which are cheap and generic. Which is tje results youll get. I just got a custom ptc converter. Best thing ive done to the car.

Back in posting hell

This took almost 40 minutes to post

Sorry if I sound like a dick when I say this... again...

Everything

Go to a torque converters website and be shocked at the amount of info they ask to get the best converter for your cars application and what you want out of it.
IMO, my home town guys rock, click below on Pro Torque;
ProTorque High Performance Drag Racing Torque Converters
And Pro Torques converter order form;

There is also some very good places below and more not listed;

Of course you can just go to Summit racing and order a off the shelf 2500 converter.

The motor is a MRL BUILT : 318 mini stroker 356hp/426tq
5.9l crate 360 magnum engine ( external balance ) is what he told me is the parts source I needed for my drive train
I was going to go 4 speed, but decided I'm going automatic transmission.

No race application just around town fun car so a 2400 stall converter would I'm sure be perfect
I've got a stock 904 transmission

Just looking for the right combo and some part numbers to help in ordering

Somebody got to have something like I have?

The FIRST thing I will mention, is you need to know HOW your engine was ballanced, was it internal? Was it external? If external, how much weight is needed on the flex plate. The factory 5.9 magnum and the 360 LA version have DIFFERENT offset weight... 318s, steel crank 340s were internal, aka "neutral" if you don't know how it was ballanced, your making a mistake!

A stock 340 high stall converter balanced to a 5.9 would be perfect then.

It's External balanced as all 1993 and later 5.9 360 magnum crate motors are

So...it's a stroker 318, with with a smaller bore and different weight pistons than a 5.9 magnum, but uses the same external weight as a magnum 5.9?

Also your thread title says you have a 5.9 magnum, which you don't have....just trying to help ya out here, so you dont make hasty, improper choices....

Yes same external balance as a 5.9 magnum

This is the 318 mini stroker motor that FABO member MRL Built

But we do t know how he balanced it.
Where is that build thread?

You got my hopes up but then let me down Rob!:D

I need a SFI Flexplate for a 03 Dodge Ram with a 5.9 Magnum

The engine will be INTERNAL balanced.

The flexplate must be neutral balanced and work with crank sensor tone ring

I repeat.. it must be able to work with ECU controlled engine with crank sensor

I've read that there is no such animal and must be custom made!

Really.... the flexplate will go on a 408 stroker engine... but just mentioned 5.9 Mag just to keep things simple.:)

The crank sensor, can that not be welded on the flexplate somehow?

How about messing with the OEM part? Rebalancing that?

But we do t know how he balanced it.
Where is that build thread?

All I got was a dyno sheet

Some info off the tread:
(Mike MRL) "Hello all. I have a 318 Mini stroker we just finished. Its basically a 318 with a 360 crank. Stock Magnum heads, reconditioned with some Minor work done. I used an old school MP flat tappet cam 260/268 duration. Dual plane Air Gap style intake with a Proform 600 mech carb. FBO ignition system. 9 to 1 compression, runs great on 87 fuel."

"Stock Silvolite 1.741ch. milled the tops down .065(down in hole .008 after deck clean-up) and milled a small 10cc dish. The crown was .325 thick so more than enough for a little removal. Also had to take a bit off the skirt as it interfered with the counterweights, no big deal. Easy Peasy cheap mini stroker and it ran better than expected."

"The only thing i see that would be an issue is the flywheel. This engine is basically a 360 in a 318 block. It will require a 1993 and later flywheel, external balance as any normal 360 magnum. Other than that everything else will work just fine."

Rumblefish you have given me lots of help and feed back on this engine when I first purchased it last summer. When I was going to go 4 speed, you seemed to know a lot about this MRL built engine that Mike built.

Again all I got was a dyno sheet..... when it was sent Mike told me a build sheet would be sent along in the crate with it.
As most members know this was the last business transaction before Mike closed his shop.

Thanks for your time and effort much appreciated.

Sorry brother, I just don’t remember the particulars of the engine.

i called Hughes performance
They will external balance a converter for me and provide the flexplate

Just need to find out how many spline is on input shaft

If you just want to bolt it together, you can use a magnum 5.9 flex plate, or go to a aftermarket external ballanced one. The spline count depends on the year of transmission, early 904s had different splines

And I keep mentioning the ballance issue because it sucks to install a engine and have vibration. It's also hard on the bearings. It's my gut feeling "that" engine was a throw together deal to use up left over parts, and a seriously doubt it was even ballanced at all.

That's funny as 8 or 9 members on here said how it was a awesome built engine and Mike was the total bomb and members trusted no one else
