Anyone using Shortie headers or Jegs 555-30500 Exhaust/Muffler Kit.

I am wanting to use shortie headers since I have a set but I am not sure if they will fit. They were made for 318 Dodge and they fit the heads in the engine on the stand fine. Looks like I may need to use a remote oil filter setup because the Pass side will go right past the filter.
The drivers side is a whole other issue with Power steering and all that mess.
I am either going to use manifolds of some type of shortie headers. I do not like the long ones.
I am also looking at the Jegs 555-30500 pipe and muffler kit. Anyone using this kit and if so how is the sound? Mild or loud? I was told that it is actually a Thrush Turbo muffler.
Please try and keep the comments and suggestions on subject if at all possible.
THANKS

I think this is like the ones I have:

They look like Ram P.U. or Dakota I don't think they fit especially the driver side

Have you looked at the Schumachers?

You may want to check out the TTI shortys too.

I have a set of Doug's 452 headers, but they are full length.

Or just test fit what you have and see if it works. You'll only lose an afternoon, invent a few cuss words and eat half a bottle of ibuprofen.

I went with TTI. They are a whole lot cleaner set up. Just my 2 cents.

they look great!I will definitely use them on my next project.
How was the installation and fit?

TTIs on my car too. They fit good. You will absolutely need their head pipes, and will need to modify the kickdown linkage if you have an automatic. I put a Lokar kickdown on mine, it was easier. Installation tip: Connect the head pipes to the headers before attaching the headers to the motor. Most of the head pipe bolts are very tough to get to.

Some things need to be addressed when ordering from TTI. Things like auto or stick,if auto, column or floor shift. Also what heads you are using.Large port like 360 or aftermarket, and if using small port 273/318 heads they have a different part number.

...so they will fit a column shifted auto without modifications if the correct headers are ordered?

They have a bracket from frame to tranny kit for $40. You can modify the existing one.It doesn't take much.
There is a write up in the "How To" section here about the install from engine to back bumper.
I will say they were the easiest headers I ever installed.

I did have to rework my kickdown. But it was because I went from a 2bbl to a 4 bbl and used the same linkage. A bend here and there and lengthened the rod from tranny to the mount on the intake. You can just see it to the left of the bulk head connector.Hardware store threaded sleve about 2'' long

Here is the situation: I already have these and they are 304 S/S. I would really like to use these and just want to see if anyone has ever used them before and if so how much sweat and blood was involved. If I can find someone who has it saves me some time. I have a tig welder so I can see a cut and weld in the future. Thanks to all.

Sorry got carried away.99% sure that what you have will only fit trucks. Hate to see you cut them up and that they still won't work.
Best of luck and hope you can do it.

I used to work on mail trucks and they had a replacement cable for the shifter. Did away with the other hardware. Been trying to find similar for A body.

For the shifter or for the kickdown?
If you mean shifter, any ratchet setup will work, for kickdown, look into lokar, they make a cable for it

Want to maintain column shift. Both lockdown and shift.
Someone does makes a shift cable for column shift to do away with the linkage. I think it is Ididit and was priced around $185

These look surprisingly a lot like the ones I just got for my 73 dart. With a Magnum 5.9. Which I purchased from Jegs:

Speedmaster Stainless Steel Exhaust Headers 1996-2001 Dodge Ram 5.2L/5.9L, 1997-2001 Dodge Durango/Dakota 5.2L/5.9L
Part Number: 746-PCE316.1063
The issue that I'm encountering is the power steering gearbox, which is much too large to allow the driver side to clear. I'm currently looking at the Borgeson 800126/800127, which is significantly smaller.

So, is the fitment only an issue if running power steering? Have you thought about going electric power steering?

How much low speed driving do you do? Manual steering box + large diameter steering wheel isn't all that bad even in parallel parking. Keep it 24:1 and it isn't bad.

These look like they’ll never fit. buying the borg box will just put you out $7-800 to find out. Your steering column is probably the biggest issue, next to the steering box. 50/50 equally weighted in the ‘problem factor‘ department….

just buy the right headers….

if the driver's side doesn't fit, see if the passenger's side fits on the left, with room for a pipe made to give you the reach-around (for the steering box you sickos!)
