Hello from BluePrint Engines!

-
following.lol we take good care of our customers...but nitrous holes are pretty easy to identify.lol

I think 12many probably helped you guys out alot in the sales department.
His old van is moving.

I am considering buying a short block just to play with, add a small 174 supercharger, 5 psi, and a 100 shot just to play with.
I have the play parts already, just need something solid to put it on.

I may take you up on that.
Original plan is to take one of the many 318 I have and thrash them, or throw something hotter together before I start.
And thrash it......

Haha I hear ya! The shortblock is the perfect starting point for someone wanting to build up a hot 408 using their own top end, cam choice, etc. I personally think our long blocks are pretty stout in the HP per Dollar department, but if someone has heads, or wants a more aggressive cam, can't beat the short block!!!

we also carry distributors, fuel pumps, etc, for any missing pieces parts for the project!

and yes! 12manys van is awesome.lol I'd love to see that thing make a full quarter pass!

I completely agree on using the short block as the foundation for someone's own build. From my perspective the components used, assembly, the time involved from ones pulling the trigger to actually having a rotating assembly on the stand, and for the price, it can't be beat. Sure, the options are limited, more hd or serious hp race oriented parts, more involved machining processes could be used, but for "most" it's much more than adequate for any stout build. I could have gone further on the EQ heads, max porting, bigger valves, or gone aluminum with same mods, bigger cam, single plane intake, etc etc, and really had a serious power plant, but as I documented in my thread, the route I first started on ended up morphing into this stroker as the foundation. I could have persisted and stuck with my initial plan of doing the short block assembly myself. But as it turns out, the route taken was for the best. No regrets, second thoughts, or doubts about quality, value, or whether there was a better option. I'd do it again no hesitation. And believe me, if I have to drag this van 200 miles up the highway in order to run it down the 1/4 mile, take a day off in the middle of the week (typical test and tunes) in order to do it, which can't come soon enough......stay tuned!:)

Where do you get your cores from?
Is there a core charge, or is that already figured into the purchase price? I'm thinking that it must be.
Do you buy cores from customers and if so, how much do you pay for them?
If a core is supplied to you, would you build that for the customer or would that not be possible?
I'm thinking of the matching numbers guys and the not too easy to find cores.
Are there specific cores that are pretty hard to find and do you have to delay an order until a suitable one is found?
(Including non Mopar ones)
Which engine overall is your best seller? (Mopar and otherwise)

Hey Dartnut,

We only buy cores from large suppliers in quantities.
Our engines are sold free and clear with no core charges.
Our goal is to offer reliable and reasonably priced engines by using a specific build list, with standardized parts. This helps us keep cost down to you. This again allows us to buy things in bulk, and save $ on our end, and yours.

We do not accept customer cores for a few reasons. One is the standardization process above. If we have to stop production because a "unique" core needs special attention, or non-stocked parts (think oversized bearings) It would hurt our productivity and ultimately be a loss on our end since we weren't pumping out our usual quantities. Standardization is the key to keeping the line moving, and keeping cost down. We just build our combinations. If you want something more custom, i reccomend starting with one of our shortblocks, as many others have.
BluePrint Engines 408CI Stroker Crate Engine | Small Block Chrysler Style | Shortblock

We do make our own SBC and BBC blocks for some of our mid to upper end offerings.
I would like to get there with Mopar and Ford, but we need to do alot more volume there (thats where you guys come in) :)

our most popular engine is probably this one. A 383 SBC with roller cam, and aluminum heads. Sell the as fast as we can build them.

Hope that answers your questions! let me know if i missed any!

Thank you for your response and taking the time to post the links.
That helped me out a lot!
I would be possibly interested in a 408 dressed carbureted engine.

Of course I have a few questions:

-At the rated output, what are the RPMs that the horsepower and torque come into there peaks? Max safe RPM for the engine?
-What gas do you recommend? It looks to me like pump premium.
-What brand of intake do you use and the numbers?
-I see that it's a Holley carb, what is the CFM etc. and is it the one used to dyno the engine?
-What style of distributor do you use? (brand, modifications, etc.)
-After the engine is broken in on the dyno, is it shipped with the break in oil still in it or is it changed and with a new filter?
-I see that you use Edelbrock Performer RPM heads. Is that your standard on this engine?
-What headers do you recommend?
-What brand is the cam or do you have one supplied in bulk? Manufacturer?
-How does the engine sound........... e.g. the lope at idle?
-What are the brands/manufacturers for the internals? (Crank, Rods, Pistons, rings, etc.)
-What vibration damper do you recommend? It looks like it isn't supplied with the engine............
-Is the crank drilled to accept a 4 speed transmission?
-What year ranges are you using for the blocks, and is any range preferred?
-How much is the shipping cost in the lower 48? Delivery after order is roughly how long?

I do have more, but these are the basics, i'll look up the rest............
Thank you,
Tom.

I don’t know if you want to equip your engine with an 850 Holley like these guys did, but... This, is my 2 cents worth;

I also have a question, why does the website say it takes a mag style balancer, when most 4" cranks are neutral balanced?

Hey Tom,

Thanks for the interest! its appreciated!!! I'll try to respond below your questions in BOLD letters...lets see if i can do this correctly.

Great, i will answer the below in reference to... BPC4083CTC
Marketed at 445 HP / 500 FT LBS

BluePrint Engines 408CI Stroker Crate Engine | Small Block Chrysler Style | Dressed Longblock with Carburetor | Aluminum Heads | Flat Tappet Cam

Of course I have a few questions:

-At the rated output, what are the RPMs that the horsepower and torque come into there peaks? Max safe RPM for the engine?
The 408 in question BPC4083CTC Makes peak HP by 5500, and sustains it through 5900. I'll post a sample dyno in another post. Remember we build these for longevity, and street manners, so this is a nice street/stripable engine with almost 500 fl lbs. Lots of fun in an A-body! torque is in by 3000-3100
-What gas do you recommend? It looks to me like pump premium.
We recommend 91 octane.
-What brand of intake do you use and the numbers?
These are made with either edelbrock 7576 Or Pro products 55026. HP is not affected, sometimes we run both companies into backorder, so we need two suppliers (I'd like to mention too this is why we don't get too brand heavy in our listings, its not to be non-transparent, its because we need to keep production rolling, so if we have two good suppliers for an item, and are out of one, we have another avail)
-I see that it's a Holley carb, what is the CFM etc. and is it the one used to dyno the engine?
We use a 750 holley, again unless out of them, or if a customer requests an edelbrock. The carb shipped on the engine IS THE ONE that we use for the dyno.
-What style of distributor do you use? (brand, modifications, etc.)
Its a self sustaining unit that comes ready to run. Its private label to us. The model # is changing shortly, so we can discuss more specifically when you're ready to order.
-After the engine is broken in on the dyno, is it shipped with the break in oil still in it or is it changed and with a new filter?
The oil is drained, and a filter is not included. We DO sell break in oil, service oil, and oil filters as add-on items.
-I see that you use Edelbrock Performer RPM heads. Is that your standard on this engine?
Yes
-What headers do you recommend?
The engine would be ok with 1 5/8. I'd personally prefer 1.75, but thats a big price jump in most mopar applications. The few HP sacrificed probably aren't worth the $500 jump. Your decision.
-What brand is the cam or do you have one supplied in bulk? Manufacturer?
Most applications get a private label cam, This mopar however has a comp 20-228-4
-How does the engine sound........... e.g. the lope at idle?
This question always makes me smile.lol In my own words, its got a nice idle to it. Notably not-stock. Its not a race came..so it doesn't shake your fillings out. nor does it need to.
-What are the brands/manufacturers for the internals? (Crank, Rods, Pistons, rings, etc.)
Private label rotating assembly to our spec. Crank is from scat, to our spec. Our Rods, Pistons are forged Icons (thats UEM/KBB fyi)
-What vibration damper do you recommend? It looks like it isn't supplied with the engine............
Pro products 80012 is our go-to.
-Is the crank drilled to accept a 4 speed transmission?
Yes
-What year ranges are you using for the blocks, and is any range preferred?
Currently an LA block. 601, 830, 930 numbers. I'd be lying if i pretended to know what the mopar casting #'s mean, and i'm a mopar guy.lol Always a 360 obviously.
-How much is the shipping cost in the lower 48? Delivery after order is roughly how long?
Any engine thats not in stock takes approx 30 days. otherwise can ship same day. As far as Freight, Talk to me when you purchase...wink wink.

I do have more, but these are the basics, i'll look up the rest............
Thank you,
Tom.

Not a problem at all. I own mopars, and I sell performance engines. I almost feel guilty that they pay me to do this ;) as a forum member I help guys with stuff not even related to engines, that i encountered on my dart, or my B body. Always glad to help.

let me know if/when you're ready. Or if you have more.

I also have a question, why does the website say it takes a mag style balancer, when most 4" cranks are neutral balanced?
The website is correct, as noted below.
Harmonic Balancer: 360 EXTERNALLY BALANCED '93-'97, 7.25" Diameter
Flexplate/Flywheel: Pre-Magnum, Weighed 360

Engine Masters is awesome! I obviously love those guys. Nice guys in person too.

If only someone made an economical aluminum cylinder head that "needed" the CFM. Oh yeah...that reminds me I have a meeting with engineering coming up ;) ;)

Thanks, to me that is just an odd balance, but if it works.

Hey a shout out, I have two friends that bought your complete 408 motors around 3-4 years ago, they have beat them hard, and they are still running with no issues.

The first time i saw it i scratched my head also. Then I remember that every 1-piece SBC made after 1986 has an internal balance damper, with a weighted flexplate. Odd combo, but yup, it works.
Glad your buddies are having good luck! tell them to send in pictures and some info!

Do you have a dyno sheet that starts from idle, then up?
