6.1 Hemi into 72 Demon March 2018

-
She looks pretty good, I say drive em
been doing that just want more HP out of the old car, and be leave it or not that is the factory paint on all but 1 fender and some of the left 1/4 and the tail stripe. Not sure what to do with her yet, the factory sun roof I got working and in good shape. I would like to put on a new vinyl top and not sure of what color yet.
It's still just a scamp not worth a lot but I sure enjoy what I have

A late model hemi swap sounds and looks like a big pain in the a-- to me . But, I am gonna follow this thread !! I know about having a bad knee too. I t messes up about everything ! Keep it coming. I agree w/ putting in the biggest one u can get , if ur going to go to the trouble, I wouldn`t go to the trouble to put a 5.7 in , they just aren't that impressive to me , in stock form.

So I finished removing the dash, seats, and steering today. In preparation for slashing and burning a new tunnel. See the picture below. And yes I am pretty sure I paid for my local Snap On dealers kids to go to college! The other picture is my layout method for slashing the firewall.
My apologies to all you "real" car guys out there, I realize there is likely a great way to do this but as I stated earlier I have never done this before. I am just kind of Farmeneering it as I go. I made the cardboard template to keep my cuts as close to graceful as I can. Next step will be to go to Harbor frt. and pick up an el cheap o motor stand that I will weld to my old stand creating a carriage if you will that I can rest the motor and tranny in. I can't buy casters and sq tube as cheap as I can buy a Chinese motor stand. Then I can roll it around pitch it to multiple angles and not lay on floor! It will sit it in my carriage jig so that I can attach K frame etc and drop car over whole mess. Once I get it fabricated I will post a picture. Should be a quiet week and I look forward to thrashing again next weekend.

Looks like your doing good, I see no better way to mark and cut but never did what your doing.
When you or if you paint under the hood I have sanders and paint guns that you can use if you need them. No need to buy them. My paint guns are Sata some of the best. and I know the paint supplier for PPG down there so if you don't get a discount on paint and supplies you do now, let me know. And windshields too.

I have the TR6060 also in my Dart.Looks like you’ve got the tunnel marked in the right spot
Dartguy that is georgous. Did you purchase the tunnel or fab it yourself? Mine turns out 1/2 that nice I will be thrilled. If you purchased the tunnel let me know where that would save me quite a bit of work and frustration! Thanks guys
It made it myself. Pretty easy just make some cardboard templates and transfer it to sheetmetal and start bending a little at a time. I did 2 pieces because it was a lot easier

Fair enough! As you can see I am the master of cardboard templates. I typically am working with Stainless and it is as unforgiving as an X Wife! Cardboard saves the day. I went to your photo gallery and was amazed at how nice your car has turned out. A thing of beauty for sure. I too went with the HDK front rack and pinion. Denny has been a wealth of knowledge and super easy to talk to. I am a long way from done and your car gives me hope!

Yes Denny is a great guy to deal with. I’m sure your going to have a very nice ride when your done. Thanks for the compliments on my car.

That looks awesome, but I take it you're not running torsion bars? Because you'd want an upper crossmember hoop to do that, and that tunnel is too low for one of those unless I'm really missing something
Thanks. I am running a Hemi Denny k member

I did the same swap. Same motor, trans and K member. Denny's setup makes the job easier. Good to see another Hemi A-body club member.
Have fun and take care of that knee!!

Semper Fi Brother!

wish I was closer - I would be there to give you a hand and learn from you in the process.

in for more information on your progress - keep up the good work.

I put a dakota dash in the cuda and really liked it.

YOU DID WHAT!!!???

We are going to have to see that!!!

Maybe when you get time you can start a different thread with some shots of how that was done, and the outcome

I can attach a picture of my Cuda dash I just did not want to get flamed for the E body picture on this Forum. I made my own dash for the Cuda out of some 16 ga SST inserted a dakota dash and used painless toggles kit. Cuda is a purpose built track car, roll bar, fiberglass snout etc. I think she is beautiful but the purist cringe at a Cuda set up for drag racing. It is a hoot to take to car shows toss the steering wheel on the dash and walk away. I put a Megasquirt 3 kit on it this last offseason, it is a stroked 440 putting out right at 630 HP on just under 3,000 pounds spooled 433 on cal tracks. Handful to drive but launches hard and straight. She is in my signature photo. Notice no headlights no grill etc. pure beast! Send me a PM if you like and I will send some pix of the dash. Even dash is fiberglass.

Lets see pics of all of it !

Anything for a fellow Okie! My family is all from Talequah area, I am just up here temporary doing some fancy welding in SST. I look forward to moving back home to Ok. Let me get off work today and I will take a dash pix of Cuda.
Ok so my apologies in advance for pictures of an E body on this thread! I have got multiple requests for some Cuda pix so here you boys go. In addition I am posting some you might be a redneck if photos of me and the worlds best neighbor moving a 360 with a 727 on a cherry picker right down the road. My wife was simply shaking her head saying I know you boys aren't going to do what I think you are gonna do! Yep we did! Ya can't make this stuff up! Mopar or no car all the best to all y'all!

Sure a lot of green around there !!

Thanks for the photos!! On a side note next time you are tempted to trust a cherry picker, PLEASE put some blocking across the legs and at least lower the load so if something breakes/ folds/ leaks/ fails........well you know......it won't fall.................

Well enough of the E body silliness, back to work on the Demon. So the pallet from Cleveland Power arrived today and yes us farmers got all the cool toys. Good thing I have my crane license! Well up to 100 ton anyway! My machine was to big to go between shop building so being the good crane operator I am, I think in 3 dimensions all the time! Up and over the roof of the little shop and drop pallet down in front of door! Problem solved. But oh my gosh what a pile of wire bundles on the pallet. My 360 sure is looking good now! I think first thing is to buy a shop manual for the 6.1 I have no idea where or even what 1/2 these plugs are for. Holy crap! I will keep you guys posted as I sort this out. Clearly I will need some adult beverage to think this one thru.

PS fearless German Shepard supervising the entire procedure is named Hemi! As I was sailing pallet over the roof of the shop I was thinking wait till 67 Dart sees this nonsense! If he thought Cherry picker stunt was a classic farm move this will get a head shake for sure!

So I have walked around this motor and tranny combo several times now and still see no graceful way to pick it up with my infamous road worthy cherry picker! I want to pick it up so I can fabricate some kind of roll around cradle for it. Anybody have any clues holler out. So much plastic on it I can't find any metal! Hah
