I have a cast iron case A833 with hurst shifter and rods. The unit appears to be fine and shifts through all gears. Asking $650.00 for pick-up only from Berryville, VA. Drop it in a go! I will also be at the Mason Dixon Mopar show in WV in May.

Looking at the position of the shifter tabs, it appears this is an OD tranny. Is that correct?
 
yup the way the shifter linkage is set up it is a 3 speed with over drive that is the way mine is set and I love it with 355 gears she gets 22 mpg at 70 as long as I stay out of the other two carbs LOL
 
You guys may be right, it was sold to me as a traditional four-speed. I thought all the four-sped OD's were aluminum case?
 
I don't the trans is an overdrive. I think it's a 4 speed with a spacer around the front bearing retainer.
 
Get the stamped number off the flat pad on the passenger's side of the transmission case close to the front. That will tell us what it is.
 
Actually its a four speed with the 1-2 lever upside down.Overdrive would have front lever upside down,plus the bearing retainer is to small.

The early ODs were all cast iron. Based on the blank VIN pad and 67 casting date on the housing I would suggest it ks a hodge podge of parts built into a 67 or 68 case, and was probably put into an OD bellhousing or aftermarket blow proof bell , thus the adapter ring. The only way to truly know is to count the ratios. If you want to sell the OD shift rods and tabs I might be interested .
 
yeah I just want the part number off the shifter. then I will tell you what it is and MAYBE NOT. I just buy the whole thing.

actually,the adapter ring steps the 4.35 IBR to 4.80 and the small 4.30 IBR will not bolt to the later OD units. The O.D. IBR is 5.12 diameter.
