I have always been able to come up with suitable engine blocks any given time.
Went through 5 360 blocks recently trying to find one that would clean up at .060.
No luck, most of these were solid blocks when stored until the rust got to them.

Got me to thinking about an alternative to my 340-360 bracket engines.
Anyone bracket racing the GEN3 HEMI engines?
What does it take to make a 5.7 go mid 10's in a typical a-body at around 3100LBS?
I would like to run a carburetor.

I’ve considered the same route your looking at
There is a guy over at Moparts with and
Pre-eagle stock 5.7 with a small cam
And a set of eagle heads in a 3150 Dakota
And it runs 6.80’s
Eagle heads and the older position makes for high compression and is his reason for lack cam
 
I was/will be bracket racing a gen 3. Making a 5.7 go 10's @ 3100 lbs. is easy. Open up your wallet, lol! Seriously though, if you are serious about this, look at the stats list sticky mentioned above. There is also a build on Moparts that details a 5.7 based 392 that is in the 9's. Keeping carbed is no problem. Pick an intake (probably stay with a tall drag pak/ritter) and use the MSD Hemi 6 ignition and wiring for 08 and older. If wanting to keep it simple, stay with 08 older 5.7 or any 6.1.
 
Also review rat patrols posts in the new hemi forum on the trials and tribulations he went through with different intakes to save yourself some money trying different ones.

That is my friends truck and yes I think it’s pretty fast for pretty much used stuff. If I remember right when he got the used engine it had a hole in the block from a rod letting go. He just welded it up and went on. Lol
 
Honestly, when I get around to my own serious race/street effort, it will use the G3 platform. Bocks are really good, and REALLY PLENTIFUL. It take some money to run fast reliably with any plant. But with Mopar and the significant portion of aftermarket getting away from anything not 2G hemi the required parts are drying up.

5.7 with a 4.050 crank, good pistons with some valve relief, Eagle heads with slightly larger valves and mild port work...11:1 using pump gas can yeild about 575HP and will run well into the 10's.

Just not seeing the e.t’s and or horsepower
Levels where I wanna run
Before I jump I wanna see 650 -675 hp builds

Putting together a 2012 5.7 to run in my 70 Duster to run in street class , you can run as quick as 11.5 on dot tires. Since the motor is rated at 390 hp in stock trim I would not think it hard to achieve in a 3200 lbs car with a 4spd and 3.90 gears. Plus I think the fuel injection would make it more consistent in all weather conditions.

Go over to moparts and look up Triple Threat's "My bracket Hemi build". He has Apache instead of Eagle heads. 5.7 based 392. Chassis dyno'ed at 515 to the tire with convertor wanting to flash like 6300. He's in the nine's. I have a 6.1 based 426 that engine dyno'ed at 730 using cnc ported early heads. I would love to do cnc Eagles and see what happens.
 
In a 3100lbs car at the line that hooks will take a mere actual on track 535fwhp>
60 Foot E.T. : 1.45
1/8 Mile E.T. : 6.60
1/8 Mile Trap Speed : 102.97
1/4 Mile E.T. : 10.46
1/4 Mile Trap Speed : 128

We did a 5.7 block, 4.050 stroke, 12.75:1 on E85, oem rocker and lifters, Ritter intake, custom IMM cam (only .610 lift) and very mildly ported 6.4 apache heads and made 695HP on our dyno. Easy....

Would you mind sharing more details about this build? It seems that only a few guys are doing hardcore NA builds, and most are pretty tight lipped on the details. It gets tiresome wading through thousands of posts about bolt on crap.

What oiling mods did you do? I know all the aftermarket cranks have Chevy style drilling and more oil capacity is needed to keep from sucking the pan dry.

I like the fact that you kept the lift down, as I'm familiar with the rocker to pushrod angles. As high as they had to put the cam to clear the head, the pushrods are almost horizontal it seems. Did you use a standard timing chain? Any other valve train mods required to keep things from coming unhinged?

I'm familiar with how detonation prone the G3's are (everyone I've opened looked like the pistons were in a war). With the E85 were you able to use more typical ignition timing?

I did use the manley timing setup and is worth the money.

Getting out? Not sure what that means...to be honest, there's not a lot to elaborate on really...unless you are planning on going over 7800rpm. Then, there's a few things to do!
IMO, the damn awkward timing cover is one of the biggest hurdles to overcome!

Sorry, I must have you confused with one of the other builders that posts on here regularly. He said he was done and is just finishing up his prior obligations.
