Howdy folks,

First off, thanks for having me on the forum! I'm the proud owner of a '69 Fastback Barracuda with the "Slickback" vinyl roof option. Since I got the car back in October, I've been searching high and low to find out how many Barracuda's were produced with the "Slickback" option.

The only numbers I can find for my model are the basic ones that I'm sure you've seen before.

1969 Plymouth Barracuda Fastback 318ci Production Totals:

V8 Engine Total 11,827
318 Engine Total 8,161
3 speed 201
4 speed 509
Automatic 7,451

If anybody has any information or insight to the number of Slickbacks produced, it would be greatly appreciated. If not, a solid consolation prize would be to see photos and hear from the owners of the Slickbacks that are still alive and on this site today!

Thanks!

Of course I love the color.... :D

I've seen photos of that style roof, but I didn't know it had a name. It's definitely rare. I wonder what the build sheet code is for that?

I have one. Its a 69 fastback with a black vinyl roof. Yours is the only other one I've seen with a vinyl roof.
I read some where years ago, that their was only around 600 fastbacks with vinyl roof produced in 1969. Mine still has the original vinyl. My car is real brite white. it was a 318 auto, on the collum, with white, with red interior. I have an mild build 340 in it now, but still have the original 318 mine also has the bench seat with the flip down center arm rest.
I can't find my pics, or I would post some. I'll see if I can get some up later. I have some on my phone, but it wants to import all of them.

Geeeez, I'd sure hate to have to find the trim pieces. But whatta cool option. Leave it to the Cuda to have the COOLEST stuf.
Was that an option for model year 1969 only?

I believe the 66/67 Chargers had a similar vinyl top, wonder if they called it a SlickBack?
Looks SuperCool on those Chargers, too.

1969 only!

And I can't believe y'all haven't seen my resto project on this car...

Look for the thread "Biohazard" in the members' restorations section. Still working!

Beautiful car! Looks great with the Cragars. You need to finish off the tailpipes with a set of exhaust tips.

Very nice fish! Would like to see some productions #'s of this option? Thanks for sharing...

Dave,

We have one also, a 1969 Formula S 340 4 speed car. Was originally white, but have since changed to black to match the car better.
I've been looking at Car Shows and etc... since the 80's and haven't seen another one until this posting?

There was a guy in West Chicago, Illinoise that had a bronze 383 4-speed car with the Slickback option. He went to lots of shows in the 80's and 90's but died in the late 90's I believe and his wife sold the car. I am sure I have pics of it but haven't seen the car in a long time.

Hi,
My father bought a '69 barracuda he remembers it as a kid he used to see it going by and he remembers it with the slickback, now he is the 4 owner and the vinyl top is not there any more, does any one know from were i could by one (or any website),I have been searching for one since he told me but i can't find.

Never heard of slick back. But I probably haven't heard of everything

Any resto shop or Convertible top shop can make one for you, this is very easy for them to duplicate.

I bought a 69 barracuda a few months ago and for the life of me,I couldn't deduce his reasoning for "painting" the roof, when he mentioned it's because it was a vinyl top car,I never thought about it until I asked him again how was it and I was told that it was a slickback car ...
So count one more still around lol
I plan next yr to do the top ..as I was planning to just paint the whole car Orange (that's the color now)

P.S. The hood is for sale should someone bee looking to place a hood to cover a higher intake or carb set up that doesn't clear your stock hood.

You will never find out how many were produced, those types of options were not kept track of.

This is my sunfire yellow slickback - numbers matching 340 automatic column shift (but not a Formula S or 'Cuda)
