Good evening folks, was a delightful day of work today started off with a 2 hour commute to get into the office due to all the flooding. Ended nicely with a 2 hour conference call after I got home.

I think it’s time for a beer...
 
Hey Mike, did you decide whether you want these seats or not? I’m not in any hurry to do anything with them but if you have decided I can think about what I’m going to do.

You get paid for your time while on that call?
 
Salary has its limits. For example,if you continously exceed the 40 hour workweek
And never do less than 40,then proper compensation is in order.
But if the extra drive time is part of your days earnings then its like a break even-almost.

Salary isnt designed to be in the employer’s favour 100% of the time. Its intended to be fair for both parties.

LOL yesterday and today. I drove to Phoenix, picked up my brothers, office trailer. It is a carnival game in the front and an office in all the rest. Then pulled it to Lompoc , left it there. then home. Just got back.

The laws regarding exempt (salaried) employees vs. non-exempt (hourly) employees in the US are very specific. The States also add regulations to that.

In my case, at my salary and responsibility level I am clearly defined as exempt under the law and not entitled to overtime pay under any circumstance.

I fall under both the executive and professional definitions below...

  • For a professional exemption, employees must have a primary duty of work requiring knowledge of an advanced type in a field of science or learning customarily acquired by prolonged, specialized, intellectual instruction and study, or must specialize in a few other similarly, highly specialized fields, such as teaching, computer analytics, and engineering.
