What parts from la 318?

Could i use all belt drive parts and brackets/timing cover on my 5.9 magnum or do they have to be from a la 360. Also headers arent in the budget which exhaust manifolds could i use in a 63 dart and still retain the power steering. Thanks for the help.
 
What motor are you taking the parts from.
 
The timing cover for LA engines will fit on a 5.2 (318) or 5.9 (360) Magnums, and then the accessories can be used from the LA donor. If you are planning on using a stock Magnum engine with a mechanical fuel pump, you will need a fuel pump eccentric adapter for the camshaft, available from Hughes Engines. Oil pan and oil pump pick up will be LA style, although I am not sure which pans fit a 63 Dart.
 
Early LA timing cover, will totally jack up the timing marks, you need a 70 up cover to work.
 
I have a 81-83 318 i got a car pan and pickup from summit. I wanna run a v-belt setup. If i use a LA timing cover but want to use an electric pump i would just need a block off plate right.

Use the old timing cover with the cast iron exhaust manifolds then you can use a period correct radiator and the correct molded radiator hoses...

Keep the original damper and make a mark for TDC on the damper where the TDC mark is on the timing cover....

That fuel pump nose adapter from Hughes is an abortion... I had to re-engineer it when they sent me the wrong camshaft with that band-aid... I wanted the correct cam with the nose incorporated in it... No, they send me the magnum cam without the nose and add another $30 for that adapter kit to pump up their sale....

I modified a key way to replace that cheap *** chunk of aluminum that is supposed to clock the fuel pump eccentric...

Yes, use the old early A body 273 exhaust manifolds to fit the engine compartment...

You can always open them up with a little porting to improve flow...

I read somwhere on a thread about your problem with that. Thats why i wanted to steer clear of it by running a LA cover but with an electric pump but i dont know if there will be a problem.

Cool ill start looking. Now i just have to rebuild the trans and button up the motor and hopefully get this thing in before the fall.

Run the LA cover with an electric pump, just use the block off plate for the fuel pump outlet if you are going electric fuel pump...

And you won't need the nose adapter from Hughes if you are running the electric fuel pump....

This is a 5.9 with all the 318 LA motor front accessories and EQ heads drilled for the LA style intakes.
Even the valve covers are the LA style, because 5 of the Magnum valve cover bolt holes line up with the 5 in the LA covers, and you can even use the Magnum silicone gaskets.
Looks just like a regular 360 on the outside.
I run an electric pump, and a block off plate for a Chevy also fits the Mopar, so you can get a nice one about anywhere.

Well i guess i didnt do to bad got the complete motor and trans for $50. Now its time to start taking parts off and scrap the rest.

Balancer is weighted differently, do not do this.

Greg what is the trick on the balancer, was your magnum a bolt type pulley to the balancer, or did you use an aftermarket?
 
He meant to keep the correct balancer that came with the Magnum engine, and mark it to match the LA timing cover, if using an LA cover with opposite side timing marks.
If the original balancer on the Magnum engine is not available, or is a one piece with built in serpentine pulley, get a used Magnum without that pulley, or get the professional products balancer and install the Magnum valance weight.
 
Headers are specific to a 64-66 which would cover your 63. Your 63 may have a distributor fitment issue with an LA. Does it have the huge heater plenum that juts out?
 
No just the bump from the wiper motor that needs to be taken care of.

Use the balancer that is matched for the crank and make your own timing marks to line up with the "other" timing cover....

That way the balancer is properly matched and balanced to the crank...
