Does anyone know offhand if it's possible to remove a hydraulic lifter in a 340 w/ RHS heads without removing the intake manifold?

With stock u o x j iron heads its possible i have done it.

Use one of the cheapo extension magnet rods or a lifter removal tool.

RHS - Right Hand Side?

Left or right does not matter with stock heads.

If you have something else?

It all depends on how large the drainback holes are. I think RHS heads are somewhat stock looking so ill venture to say yes with a magnet or lifter hook.

I'm going to say "a definate maybe"

RHS LAX heads.....

Oops I was thinking EQ, Im gonna say no now. But intake gaskets are pretty cheap. Pop it off!

What's so hard about removing the intake?

More money

More time

More sealant to scrape off and new sealant needs cure time

Have to drain and open up the cooling system

Have to open up the fuel system

When you have a single defective lifter that won’t spin after breakin, it’s nice to not have to do extra work. you can remove and replace a lifter by simply removing the rockers and using a magnet to pull the lifter out.

Although he may have to pull the intake regardless, unless he can walk the lifter to the back of the engine and pull through the distributors hole. Cushioned mechanical fingers work well in this case.

I pull noisy, or suspect lifters quite often. There's usually nothing wrong that disassembly and cleaning doesn't cure. ItS just so much cleaner, convenient not having to mess with fluids etc. I recently read one of our members used a dye grinder and suitable "masking" to open one area of new style heads. Perhaps do a search. Pulling lifter out dizzy hole is possible. Cheers.

I would have to remove the intake because my neighbors would call the law after I used such foul language :)
