360 magnum flexplate?

Im swapping a 318 magnum out for a 1998, 360 magnum in my 70 dart 727 transmission. I keep seeing that i need a weighted flex plate because the 360 is externally balanced but i can not find a single flexplate anywhere online thats for the newer magnum motors. all i can find is the LA360 ones. Can someone whose done this before please link me to the exact part i need to buy?
 
OK. You are taking the 5.2/318 Magnum engine from a 98 Dodge something and want to swap it into a 70 dart with the 727 or the L.A./magnum block. Do it have fuel injection ?

Do you have the flexplate out of the original vehicle the Magnum was in? Just use that. If you are using an LA converter my understanding is that you can "oblong" the odd mounting hole. Make sure your converter is "neutral" balance

B&M did make these flexplates but I think they discontinued them. Check with cope racing transmissions, that's where I found one.

Current catalogs don't list the B&M for magnum 5.9 but they were made. Have to find one used or someone who still has one in stock. If I can find the paperwork, I'll supply the part number. Maybe someone else can chime in that knows that part number.
 
The factory truck 5.9 magnum flexplate is what you need, may need to elongate one hole, easy as pie.
 
Looked thru some old threads and B&M number was 10242. Don't know why it was discontinued.
 
Just get a stock 5.9 flexplate. One hole will need to be opened up about 1/8 or so, not much. Use a neutral balance converter which you should already have. I have a 1994 5.9 and it had a 318 flexplate but a weight on the converter. Several at the juslnkyard were the same way. So, I think you need a 1996 and newer flexplate. I bought mine brand new at oreillys. Advance auto had them much cheaper but oreillys price matched.
 
thanks much guys,. i actually have the stock factory truck one that came with it i just did not know it was compatible with the 727 tranny. I freakin love this site.
 
Look at the money you just saved....lol. Like a few others have said, just test bolt it to your converter so you can see where to rat the one hole out. Mark it like you would have with an original 727 flex plate if you like, but it should fit the same no matter how you try to bolt it.....unlike an original that only fits one way.
 
Wrong ballance, that's for a LA 360, NOT magnum, and the truck flexplate will work, and save him $99.00, no need for a eBay flexplate

Can you show where that is "for sure?" The years mentioned seem to indicate magnum......I'm not at ALL sure YET whether that one is LA or magnum

Actually no, nothing I saw stated it was for those years, but if so, then yes, it would work. I know the magnum has a different offset weight amount than LA, I was thinking that was the "LA" version... but i think the OP did say he had the factory flexplate, so he's good to go.
 
I guess what we need is a copy of an older B&M catalog that lists the darn thing
 
The B&M # 10242 I the flex-plate that I have in my Challenger. 5.9 Magnum Crate engine from Mopar Performance with a 727 small bell housing.
 
THIS is a flexplate from a 98 5.9 magnum (First picture). The 360 LA flexplate is weighted differently. A 5.2 is not weighted (second picture).

I agree to just use the stock magnum flexplate. Funny that this popped up, I just bought this from Summit racing yesterday. I’m on the HotRod powertour and our hotel was almost across the street

Hey dusted, what is the number stamped into that flexplate? I think I read 10236 on the sticker, but it's a little blurry when I zoom in on the picture.
10236 is for an LA 360 external balance, not a Magnum 360. Still a good score though.
