Anyone have a Air Gap intake that they could measure the depth and length of the cutout of the plenum wall where the carb sits. I wanted to buy the Air Gap but living in a little colder climate the Performer RPM is a better choice, now I would like to modify it like the Air Gap

No cutout on mine.
Just a straight up divider wall upto the carb flange (which had a good amount of (core) shift which hit the throttle blades and prevented more than half throttle. Nice work mr. Edelbork!).

I have two. No cutout on one, the other I cant get to at the moment.

You’ll find a better performance gain with a spacer. But if you have the room under the hood.

Neither of mine has any cut out. People add them, but they don’t come with them. Or at least they haven’t for awhile.

I also run mine with a 1” spacer and a drop base air cleaner.

Mine didn’t have it. Install it with out it and try it with a spacer and without. That way you’ll know if wants one or not.

None yet here either...

That is a small block engine, that one pictured is for the Magnum series engine, 318/360.

I just had mine ported, and the porter cut .020 out of mine. I didn't know he was going to. He did all the R&D on the P6 and P7 heads for Penske racing, and ported all their heads that won a NASCAR Championship, so I'm betting he had a reason, and not complaining.

I have run this intake with and without a 1" spacer, and couldn't feel a difference on the street.
The only time I ran the spacer at the track I was having unrelated fuel starvation issues, so no good data to compare.

I run that AG up here North of the 49th, until mid October...... WithOUT a choke. I am back on the road as soon as the sweeper-trucks have made the rounds; April or May. I have started it on warm February days to go for a quick spin, brrrrrrrr. Buuuutt I have a DP carb, and 185psi cylinder pressure. Not bragging just saying.

why do you want the notch. It was on some older intakes so you could use the old holley carbs.I don't think you will gain anything.

Pretty sure Edelbrock only puts that notch in the Chevy ones.

This is true, I called Edelbrock as I wanted some answers before I milled and the Tech told me that Edelbrocks dyno runs with the mopar Airgap didn't show enough gain in HP or torque with the wall notched out so they don't offer it. The Tech did say the best thing I could do is run a half inch laminate spacer to help dissipate the heat, any taller spacer would effect the low end torque. So I'm probably going to leave it as is and run a spacer.

Oh, it's worth something. Seen this?

I saw this video, unfortunately they are not using a MOPAR. They are using a modified 350 chevy . According to the Edelbrock Tech that I talked to today, Edelbrocks dyno test did not show a substantial increase in HP or Torque on the Mopar intakes like the chevy intakes that's why Edelbrock does not offer the Mopar AirGap with the cut out wall. The tech said I could mill it out if I desired to do so but said not to go any deeper than a 1/8 of a inch.

Big block. Chevy or Mopar the function and respective design is the same. If I ever have my Air-gap off again I will for sure be milling the divider. Not enough hood clearance for a spacer. The spacer is doing the same thing as milling the divider. Allowing the carb to get signal from both banks of the engine. "The problem is that the dual-plane design limits performance, since each cylinder only gets to benefit from half of the carburetor’s available induction flow. Modern dual-plane intakes resolve this issue with a notch in the plenum divider."

@ou812 Perhaps you can comment on what you have found with spacers on top of the Edel. RPM? As well as a mild divider if you have done such?
Thanks.

Lelo, The spacer adds plenum volume. The nothc doesn't. Thats about the only thing. Build dependent, extra plenum volume may be good.

1" open really improves power from about 2500rpm and up...also cleans up the A/F ratios with most carbs....
