Here is passenger fender color sanded in 2000. Weird, I kinda like doing the final sanding steps....getting it that much closer to green glass.

DANG!!!!! That looks better than great. Using the guide coat between sanding steps is a good idea that I'd never seen before. Do you do it just between the 1st and 2nd steps, or between 2 and 3 also?

^ JD, I sanded first with 1500 wet lightly. The shine from the 3 coats of sprayed clear turns to a haze. Then I did the dry guide coat dusting, wiped it all off with a wet rag, then sand with 2000 til' the black is all gone. I will do this again, but sand with 3m 3000 Trisect wet and use a Porter Cable DA. I am just following what the shop that is polishing out my paint is telling me to do.

I'd be nervous as a ho in church the first few minutes with the DA part....lol. When I get to that point, I'll be practicing on an old decklid or something. I've seen Will Scott doing that with a DA on Graveyard Carz, but he's painted a thousand cars.

JD, With 3000 grit you have to try to screw something up. Keep the DA moving and wet, stay away from all edges and any sharp ridges or body lines.....and just let the 3000 polish out the 2000 scratches. I'll end up doing some hand sanding with the 3000 also (top of the doors/fenders, around the pop out windows). I got this, not skeered.

3000 is like using a piece of notebook paper. LOL

OK..what a week of wet sanding! The car and doors are all done and in 3000 3m Trizact. Ready to go to the buff/polish shop. Just gotta paint the hood and the scoop. The car and doors will go to get buffed this next week. I'll paint hood and scoop and take them to them. They will hang the doors and hood. Me and Higgs will hang trunk lid before goes to get buffed, maybe tomorrow???

Saturday...normally my paint day, but getting doors ready to go to buff shop. Got doors weather seals installed, doors ready, Check. Car is all ready, Check. Couldn't help myself...the car is in 3000 grit, the Porter Cable DA is sitting right there, there's a white hex cutting pad...some Meguires 105...a blue hex finishing pad...some 205 Meguires finishing glaze. All I need is reckless abandon....Got plenty of that! Went at passenger quarter to see how I can get it polished. Green glass!

Looks like you've got a handle on it.

Should be a good week coming up. Doors and car to be taken to get professional buffing. They will hang the doors after buffing. I put the new Metro door seals & bumpers on them yesterday. I'll paint hood and scoop this week too. Also need to order the side & tail Stripe Kit.

Hey Alex great job Man, may I ask where your going to get your graphics, I’m doing a clone of your car... love everything you’ve done, congratulations on a job well done.
May I ask where you are getting the new moldings for the outside of the car.
I think I read that everything is going to be black, did you just paint the old moldings

Thank you for your kind words, Steve. Stripe Kit, still need to check where to purchase. Trim, the plan is to scuff it up and powder coat it, or just leave it off. That too is still "To Be Determined". Yup everything as much as possible is: "chrome delete, black is sweet"!

Looks like you did a nice job buffing the 1/4 panel, why not just finish the rest of the car?

^ Well....I made a deal with Cars Remember When (the buff shop). They told me their tricks to remove all the scratches prior to buffing. Which we agreed I would do prior to bringing in the car. They also did my trunk lid and it was fantastic. I too think I did a pretty darn good job on the quarter panel (thank you Sire) ....but that was after they told me their tricks. So, I am a man of my word and have no problem with them doing the buffing and polish out. ....and they are going to hang the doors and hood, which is fine with me!

Hanging the panels is worth it, not having to worry about scratches.

I prefer to worry.....and hang my doors and install my hood myself (with the proper assistance)...but maybe that is just me. No wonder they call me Mr. Anal...not be confused when I am called an azzhole
