who is doing wiring harnesses? have a 98 ram 1500 and thinking of swapping 5.2 into duster/dart. not sure about removing wires myself. have ordered a used 98 service manual to have on hand. What about the pcm? have heard than manual one is needed. new to this kind of action. thanks in advance.

There is a lot of these swaps out there, and many are done different ways. The factory PCM from an automatic truck will work fine to run the engine without the trans plugged into it, it will just have codes stored. SCT software has the capability to turn off the transmission functions in the PCM too, so talk to someone who does the tunes and see if they will do it this way. The harness seams to scare people sometimes, but really all you need is the wiring diagrams for engine controls and connector end views. Any wires for four wheel drive or any such feature you are not using can be removed. You must keep all sensors used to run the engine such as as TPS, MAP, O2, ECT, IAT, crank sensor, cam synch sensor (distributor), and outputs such as IAC, fuel injectors, etc. Not that bad to do the harness yourself, and if you make a mistake, just splice it back in. I suggest for the first one you do, remove the covering and identify the wires you want to keep with masking tape, then write the function of that circuit on the masking tape, such as TPS ground, TPS 5 volt reference, and TPS signal. Saves rework this way.

When you get the factory service manual, if you will make me some good, clear copies of the wiring diagrams and pinouts.....I'll be more than happy to shoot you some $$ for the trouble. I have a 98 model 5.9 and all of the under hood wiring from a 3500 manual transmission truck. I'm wanting to put it in my old beater truck. If you just want to buy a harness, I think Hotwire Auto in Arkansas is the only ones doing it right now. Someone said Magnum Mopar went out of business.

You can buy digital service manuals including wiring diagrams from sources such as Rockauto.com. I would not recommend anyone offer or request buying or selling copies out of published service information, in case that is copyright protected information. Just buy it from a legit source.

iv'e heard some people have trouble with an auto computer, but iv'e been running my 01 5.2 in a 72 dart with the 904 for 3 years now without any problems, and no, i never hooked my oil sending unit to the computer, so it doesn't need to see the pressure. then again, easy rider never could get his right till he got a manual computer. go figure. lol. mine's a 5.2, so maybe there's a difference in the 5.9. i will tell you this, if you have a factory security system, you'll have to get that taken out. if i can help, just ask. dave.

You are gonna find that "making copies" of the factory diagrams is not that easy. They are drawn over many many pages, strewn all over 'ell. SOMEWHERE, someone on here came up with a "condensed" diagram of just the ECU related.

Thanks Del. I'll dig around some more when the time comes. I just need it good enough, that my old tired eyes can figure out what needs 12v, what needs 12v switched, etc.

Look up the donor vehicle on Rockauto.com, then I think it was listed as literature under the tools tab. Around twenty five bucks typically, then you can zoom in on your computer and print copies for your personal use.

So am i getting this right, a manual trans computer would be a better choice? I bought a 94 2500/5.9 annd manual trans. If i transplant it into my power wagon then i free up a solid engine for my dart. Sorry, didnt mean to hijack but i would love to see a thread that covers this. Including retaining stock efi.

the 92-95 was obd1 system. the transmission wasn't computer controlled other than lock up and overdrive. i dont think a 94 computer cares if it's auto or not.

From what I'm seeing of the manual is green wire with brown stripe is 12 volts key on and there's a red wire with white stripe 12 volts constant and a few grounds.I don't remember the fuel pump color .I haven'tdone this yet but that's what I'm going to try .

Also if someone needs a vin number to get a pcm flash for a manual transmission let me know.I've also go a pdf of fsm for 2001 I'll gladly email to anybody. Take note it's a huge file at least 2600 pages

PCM fuel pump relay control for 1999 model year is listed as brown with white tracer. Don't remember if it was same color for different years. Also, I don't recommend trying to share VINs for reprogramming. Just use the VIN that is already programmed into your PCM.

No onefine89, have not gotten anything done as I had to prepare to get a complete new left knee installed. Arthritis ate it up from 50 yrs of mechanicing. Hope to get back on it in 4 to 6 weeks or when doctor releases me. Will update on conversation as I get more info.

Is there a company that takes a wiring harness for a 5.9 Dakota RT and matches it up to a 1971 Dodge Dart?

There used to be a company that did it for Abodies. But I can't seem to find them now

From what I have seen it looks like hotwires from Arkansas is the only one left and they are about 1100$.I have never used them that is what I have read. Also it seems summit and jegs both carry a harness for about 900$ I'll see if I can find the part numbers

I am by no means an expert, but this is what I'm attempting. Attempting is the key word right now. I am using the donor truck FSM found here. 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Service Manuals - DodgeForum.com I am pulling the items I don't need out of the harness and leaving what I do need. From what I've researched I am using a Fuel pump relay, Auto Shutdown Relay, Starter Relay and Transmission relay. Again this is not tested yet, but I'm hoping this will work. It's not done yet, but close. I just need to wire in a fuse panel to power the relays, then finish wiring the relays up. Unfortunately this is kind of far down on the priority list, so I'm just working on it in my free time which is limited right now.

It will work if you get the wires correct. You are doing the right thing working off of a donor harness. You'll save a ton of money even if you make a mistake and have to fix it. These harnesses are pretty cheap from the self serve junk yards, and plentiful.

Now this is for a magnum in a Jeep. So don’t know if it’s the same for a truck.
