just wondering how to orient this - maybe make as short and straight a run as possible? - anyone got any pics of how this was typically done? thnx

Without see'n what YOU have impossible to say. On the cars I had, and what I 'memeber is the 69 383 RR it was simply a "push on" breather with the extended tube sticking up on the VC, with a hose going to a fitting on the cleaner bonnet. It had "a small amount" of slack and was about the flexibility of new heater hose, but heater hose likely won't like oil.

thanks - this pic shows it - '68 these valve covers take 1/4 turn twist on breather - I can spin air cleaner so vent tube aligns with oil breather tube (correct breather with tube not shown). So about a 7" length will do it. What do you think?

OK, the way I used to do it with "twist in" AND I DON'T THINK YOU CAN GET THEM anymore, is to buy a Ferd twist in cap which takes a grommet and hose el in the top. I bought a chrome one like off a Shelby 390, etc

Just like this:

Bear in mind Ma never used these...........Mopar either had the tube sticking up (like the 69RR I pictured) or my 70 had a fair sized grommet in the VC and the breather popped into that. You had to pull the hose off either the breather or air filter to get it apart.

Oh yea I know thanks. I found a cal shop making some now for mopars that look similar to the one on the 70 in your pic so I figured what the heck give it a try - just wanted to connect up something to that empty nozzle on the air cleaner lid.. can't hurt/should run the same. I'll post a pic tomorrow..

there you go. Ready to be a PIA first time I top up oil...ha

Mopar used a pop in breather with a hose going to the air cleaner, so no tools were needed for removal.

Not to jack the thread, but any of u guys ever use a pcv valve normally on one side, and use the same set up piped in to the breather on the other side ? Thinking it may help to stop ram air to the engine w/ a scoop in use . ??????????thots??

I'm thinking it won't breathe - when it wants to suck from one side the other will close off..I believe it has to be open to outside air on one side or the other.

I hear you, but a few weeks ago someone posted that the 1970 mopar big grommet covers the twist in hole and accepts the mopar push in can with nipple!

As I posted earlier THIS WAS NOT USED in 69. 69 still had the raised tube with push on breather. My 70 had the "pop in"

well I got a '68 and don't recall what was stock..but like anyone in '68 said: "screw stock"! ha. Perfect weather - blew cobwebs out today and t'was a thing of beauty..

Here is a stock 68 383 a body Barracuda.

69 was the same only engine color was Hemi orange.

Sounds logical > spock .

thanks all very much- those pics are super - great for a number of things - no cars like ours anywhere around where I am to compare anything to. One other issue I am looking at is correct length of dipstick... got a chinese one in there now and not sure if it's comparalbe to original stock. A measurement from tip up to where it stops at top of tube would be useful for comparison..(stock oil pan).

Should be a 893 as stock. See if these help you. Measured from the bottom edge of the shoulder on the stick. Worst case is do a change with filter and 5 quarts and re-mark your current stick after a quick warm up and rest.

thanks - will check - yes it's a swapped motor and they used a 699 pan. supposed to be a 68 motor. I know 4sp is a '72. It did more like 4 quarts when I changed oil so I am suspicious. The way I had front end raised though it could have had some old oil stay in the pan..it tuns cool all the time and sounds OK.

mine measured 22 1/2. geez 1/2 inch could represent a quart....What would I expect/happen if I overfill? I'm tempted to add a least 1/2 quart based on this comparison..

maybe a measure from tip to the full mark would help also?dunno.
