So I just bought my first ever NOS carburetor. It is over 50 years old and still in its original box with tags and directions etc. can’t wait to get it on the car.
Anyway, I want opinions. Should I disassemble this unit and replace all the gaskets and the needle and seat? Or should I just throw it on and start tuning it?
Thanks for the help. Doug

What is it? Carter, run it. Holley? The gaskets may or may not be puckered under the metering block. NOS should be ready to run with maybe a blow out, spray down and a lube. Cant hurt to run it if your willing to tear it down if it doesn't run anyway.

put it on, watch for leaks. Iv used some old NOS carbs before and they worked fine (BBD and BBS).

does it have a leather accelerator pump seal might need to soak it

Thanks for the replies.
Yeah it’s a carter BBS. I will throw it on and see what happens. I will try to squirt some gas into the accelerator pump and let that leather soften up before I give it a go. Thanks for that heads up.

Yes put some gas in the bowl and let it soak for a while. That Carter 1 barrel is pretty bullet proof. Nice find.
