Yes, ding the oil pan for clearance, but don't use a metal Hammer, use a mallet or put a piece of wood against the pan and hit it with a metal hammer. You don't want to crack or put a hole in your oil pan.
Also, I have a couple of driver side exhaust manifolds for the early a bodies. On other cars I have had I have match ported them and smooth them out and they seem to run pretty good.

Was the car a /6 car originally?
OP, this question is the key.
Slant six cars had a center steering link that had a shallow "drop" in the middle since the 170 and 225 Slanty had a shallow oil pan. V8 oil pans are deeper and because of this, in 1964, they had a different center link for V8 cars. It dips further down and allows plenty of clearance for the V8 pan.

Ok, was told /6 links the same? Guess not. It is on 69 Dart I swapped.

Thanks, Dave

v8 link has more drop as said earlier, on my magnum I massaged a set of the magnum manifolds and ran a shim under the mounts to gain steering coupler clearance.

Shoot us a pic! Magnums in a early A are long in word, short in pics. Biggest gripe is the steering clearance and I want to see how you addressed this. I have also shimmed a steering box (and I slotted the mounting holes) to fit a 400 based 451 in a 65 A with Hi-po logs.

I have a set of 273 4bbl exhaust manifolds for cheap. PM me if interested.
How are those different from the standard 273 manifolds?

Regarding the steering: In 1967, the K member, tie rods and center link were redesigned. The center link cleared all factory engines from then until the end of production in 1976.
Lots of development through the long run of the A-Body steering, brakes and suspension.

It's not whether the ex. mans. are from a 4bbl or 2bbl (BTW, they are the same), it's whether they are 1st gen (pre '66) or 2nd gen and up ('67 and on)...those 2 are different.

Thanks, my point was that I didn't think that there were any "4 barrel" 273 exhaust manifolds. I figured that they used the same ones on all 273 engines 64-66 and a different style 67-69.

I will see if I can dig up some pictures, I have since swapped it out with a slant 6

The magnums extend pretty far back on the passenger side and go about straight down on the driver side but dont hit the starter? They are supposed to flow right up there with the 68 340 logs for 10% of the cost. There are 2 sizes: the early year 618-619 casting had a 1/8 larger outlet. Cap that EGR fitting. Plenty of room for a standard oil filter!
