Id like to know something that may sound dumb but I just am looking to get an idea that's all...as one can not really put a number on this question but a round about maybe..

What time of gas consumption do you think a decent 340 (approx. 400 hp) is getting on a full tank of gas.

Like I said, one can not say exactly as someone might be beating it daily while the other guy strolls easily with it and maybe opening it up once in a while..
This is a 340 six pack liker I said and at the time the rear gears were 2.76 (ouch lol) a 4 speed car.

Thanks for any ideas any help will be appreciated with all respects from me..

The math is fairly simple to figure out gas mileage. Its hard for someone to tell you because we dont know all the variables(heavy foot ,weight of car ect..)

All highway driving you may be able to squeeze 15 out of it. Heck, my 273-4 speed get's right at 18 on a all highway drive. If you mix in town driving and a little hot rodding and your mileage will suffer. Remember, "smiles per gallon" is what this hobby is all about.

Yes yes. I hear and understand you, all. Albeit, seems like some don't understand what I have asked.
Don't want to what MPG y'all get. Or if y'all drive with a lead foot or a feathery tap.
Question was.

What is the average amount of miles one can do/drive with a full tank of gas.
Granted he can floor it all day long and only do 50 miles or drive real slow like a Duck and get 5 times the amount.
That's why I asked, how many miles on average do you guys with an A Body cuda do.
Thanks.

Geez Maps, simple math. First you have to know how many miles per gallon you get and multiply it by the number of gallons your tank will hold. For example, a car that gets 15 mpg and has a 15 gallon tank has a range of 225 miles.

Wow, you all must think I'm a phukken dork lol...
What is it that you all don't understand.
I know what mpg is, now did you guys know what litres per 100 kms ?
I doubt..... HIGHLY,
At least the average Joe, so instead of me sitting and trying to figure out that Jack gets 10 mpg and now convert it to litres per 100 kms (our standard here) I figured if a few folks told me that they average about 80 miles with a full tank another guy says I get about 100 miles on Full tank, then I know they are averaging 160 kms on a tank and the rest is simple...
Now you underhand why I was asking what is the average mileage people do with a 340 A Body ...hp rear gears etc...

Cause if I would have asked what is the litres per 100 kms, then you would Really Think I'm a dork with Phd credentials... Lol

Merci, thank you.

Well in that case my dart goes 210 miles on 10 galllons of gas and thats when i fill up. My wifes mini van gets about 320 miles on 15 gallons. I couldnt tell you how far they go to empty because i never let them get past quarter tank.

From all the post you had you never once mentioned you were trying to convert. If you get 15 miles per gallon on a 18 gallon tank you are gonna go roughly 270 miles. 10 miles per gallon is 180 miles. So 434 kms on 68 liters of fuel Or 290 kms for 68 liters

I would say 362 kms to 68 liters of fuel that puts you in between both calculation.

If its a typical A-body 15 gal. tank you better plan on 170 miles maximum. Many 340s only get 10 mpg or so in "city" driving. But, if it's mostly highway, with 2.76 gears, you can plan on going somewhat further. But not knowing the exact type of driving you are doing or the actual size of the tank makes this an impossible thing to predict with any degree of accuracy.

Not sure if this helps. My gas guage died so my odometer is filling in as my gas gauge for a while.

I've been getting 9.72 mpg (thats Imperial gallons up here) around town on my shake down cruising. That's 29.067 (gasp) liters per 100 km, or 129 miles on a stock 13.25 Imperial Gallon tank.

Never really payed much attention to mpg. Got other vehicles for that. Lol. But I think 10-12. Fairly stock 340 4 speed Dart with 3.23 gears. Tires are a little on the short side. Think they are like 24". Would like to put some 26" on it to do a little better on the freeways.

I'm also running a 340-6pk with a 904 and 323s. Best I've gotten is 15mpg on the highway. Not sure about mileage around town as I pay more attention to my smiles per gallon...:D

I got 400 a couple of times with my HO 360, but 250 was more average. Then I got a bigger cam, and there was no more of that.
But a 340 is about half that.
Plus the 340 burns premium, while my 360 burns skunk-piss.

God id kill for some lf your mileage. Im getting 90 miles a tank at best lol

Cylinder pressure is my friend
and rpm is the back-up.
And a manual trans is the enforcer, lol.
If you don't have EFI, then
You gotta get the carb off the mains, and working on the low-speed circuits. Then you make sure every molecule of gas that gets into the chamber, contributes it's fair share, to the production of pressure, and that none moves thru the chamber unburned. piece of cake.

'Course if you have an 700hp monster, 90 might be right. Ima talking 400 or less. Actually that combo went 106 @3650#, so 340hp or so.

So much for, simple math, not rocket science, if you get ten miles to the gallon and you have a 10 gallon tank.me i then you take the 10 mile::

Now we're talking... Seems like you got what I was looking for, lol.
Of course no one can tell what they are getting exactly as two people can drive the same car and both get complete different mpg but I was just looking to see on "avg." What most will get around town with their little A body cars (barracuda on my part) with a half decent 340 and weird *** gears...

And Lenky don't feel bad I'm not far from you but my main problem is my engine is ruining real bad (rich now) on account of bad vacuum and bad electricity, two contributing factors I had nil knowledge could ever do such harm to an engine...

Most importantly, I THANK ALL YOU for your patience and understanding of my stupidity let alone with my "Canadian English" .... It's sometimes hard to understand each other... But we seem to all be getting along quite well...

Oh yes as for gas prices up this way... It's running now close to 1.50 ( 93 octane that I use is about 1.65) it doesn't sound too bad you are all thinking..... But (that damn. but..) that's 150 a Liter. lol
To understand it in U.S. dollars to gas.....you need (almost) 4.5 litres to a gallon.
Therefore it's 4 x 1.50= 6.00 dollars a gallon. Not that funny anymore is it, lol... add another 70-75 cents more for super 93.mandy were close to 7 dollars.
Yes but that's Canadian funny money you say, it still comes to over 5 dollars USD a gallon, closer to 6 to be exact....

Happy cruising...

There are 3.7854 litres in a gallon.
3.78l in a gallon US.
4.55l in a gallon Imp(Canadian)
US gallons have 128 oz,
Imp has 160oz
An ounce is an ounce between them

In grade-school, we learned the rhyme; "an ounce is an ounce the world around". I have no idea if that is true, cuz grade school was full of lies.

Mines a 340 w 4 speed and 410 gears im about 425 horse. And im running rich at the moment also. Smh

>Aluminum or iron heads, lol. With iron, that points to a pretty big cam and some porting, and together with the 4.10s, there'll be no cruising her on the transfers,lol....... well maybe at 43 mph/2200rpm, with 50 to 56 degrees advance, lol.
>With aluminums, you can drop a cam or maaybe two, but 425hp is still gonna take a 235/240 cam, and if even if you run it at 190 psi, those 4.10s and the 70ish degrees of overlap are not conducive to making fuel mileage.
>However; 90miles to a tank has got to hurt, lol Point to point at 65 can probably be improved with a ton of advance, and then lean it out. You may have to re-engineer your PV channel restriction to get the power circuit back on track.
>But if your cylinder pressure is down around your ankles, that would probably be like flogging a dead horse. But it would be kindof hard to make 425 with cylinder pressure that low.

IDK man, that's why I don't run a 292/108, nor a 340.

Use a vacuum gauge and learned around the vacuum gauge, have a good day

My cam is a 292 508. Zero decked 202 and 160 valves. At 60 mph im close to 3k rpms. Wasnt built to cruise the highway. Lol
