I use them. Personally I've never blown one out.
My dad did 16 years at a dodge dealer back in the early 60's thru the late 70's. When he rebuilt a motor 318 or 360 he never used a gasket. He says never a come back!!! So after he opened his auto shop he continued to disregard gasket still never an issue!!
Isn`t a small block pump on the inside or the engine ? Never messed w/ a small block mopar , only sbc. Thanks all that's pretty much what I figured

personally, I like it being out where a guy can change it, or rebuild, or go bigger w/o pulling the pan. Oil filter up front , easy to get to.---to each his own-They are inside the pan where oil pumps belong. Those big block mopars are some strange beasts with their exposed pumps and such.
There wasn't a gasket in my 360 magnum and I didn't use one when I rebuilt it.
