My 70 340, 4 speed Dart won't start easy or idle until it gets hot. Could this be a mixture screw adjustment problem? The carb was professionally rebuilt before I owned it and the entire choke assembly was replaced.

Could be as simple as the choke needs adjusting.

Like I said, I'm not great with carbs. Least of all, Carter AVS. I'm looking for a direction to go with this.

in my opinion if your not gonna work on it then your gonna need some one who can, when you find this person be sure to make him your best friend, buy him beer and jerky often!

While I appreciate your response, I was looking for more of an opinion than an instruction sheet.
OK, Opinion then.... Learn by do.
A little trial and error is in a mechanics realm of activity. Many here have done things with out previous knowledge on a particular subject.
Since they almost have a "no user serviceable parts" note attached, I may never have pulled a cone sure-grip apart had I not read a "How To" post by RRR in post #2 (thanks again Rusty).

None of us were good with them at some point in time. Don't sell yourself short.

As RRR said, it very well could be just a choke adjustment, because carbureted engines need a bit of extra fuel and even some raising of the idle till they warm up some.
A computer handles this on EFI engines, and the choke handles it on carbed.

Most electric chokes are adjustable, and some are adjusted by loosening the screws that hold the round bi mental section in place and twisting it a little to put more tension on the choke plate so it closes a little more on cold startup, as well as gets the linkage up on the high idle.

Once adjusted correctly you should be able to get in the car, put the throttle to the floor one or twice and it should fire right up on high idle.
Wait a couple of seconds, tap the throttle lightly and it should idle down close to it's normal warm idle.
Of course this changes with weather temps unlike EFI engines and may need a little tweak every season change form summer to winter then winter to summer.

Didnt say I wasnt gonna work on it.
I'm very capable of doing my own work. I was just looking for a starting point.

I really appreciate the response to my AVS problems. It's great to belong to a forum where I can get help from people with more experience than myself. That being said, thanks, I got this.

It could be a number of things. B4 starting in the morning or first cold start of the day, remove the air cleaner. Is the choke partly closed? If so, push the throttle right to the floor, let off, is the choke fully closed? Is so start the car. Is it on fast idle? If so let it warm up some b4 kicking it off fast idle. Let it fully warm up, then try adjusting the mixture screws. Do they make a difference? Better or worse? If the choke needs adjustment. I can help u with that too. Kim
