My 67 383 Barracuda needs all new front suspension, anybody have any input on new torsion bars: Stock replacement, or PST brand. The PST have (3) grades of Ft. Lbs per inch.: 230 to 140 ft. lbs/inch?? The 230 are cheaper by $200.00 etc. I assume the less ft lbs. the smoother the ride, more ft.lbs the stiffer??

I have the PST bars in my car and love em. with the 383 you will probably want a stiffer bar to support that extra weight.
my valiant has the 1.03? bars in it same as I ran in my big block dart. gives a little stiffer ride but improved the handling a ton in my opinion.

Thanks looking at the PST brand, They list the ft. lbs., & others do not. I assume the more expensive, the stiffer the ride ??

The bigger bars will stiffen the ride but it's not bad at all. I think you'll like the PST 1.03 bars.

If you have any questions about our bars please feel free to pm me. Also as a member of forum you are eligible for the member's only discount on all orders over $200 and free shipping in the USA 48 States.

Get the 1.03 bars. They're WAY cheaper and mostly everyone recommends them. I have them on my dart with a cast iron headed 360 and it rides great. Much firmer compared to the stock slant 6 bars but it's not harsh by any means.

Yep, another vote for the PST 1.03 bars. Put them on my car a few months back, Firmer feel than my old bars, but not harsh feeling at all.
Really like what they did for my car.

I see replys from other members in your state, maybe you can hook up and try before you buy?

They took that driving a boat feeling right out of the car.

Definitely check out www.swayaway.com before you buy.
Nice quality bars, good variety of choices.

Brian is a seriously good guy. He was incredibly patient and helpful when I needed some tech support. The guy knows his stuff and stands behind his product.

Can you tell us are the sway away bars clocked or not? I bought a set years ago for one of my cars and they where great bars for what I was doing with my car but they were zero clocked.

Thanks
James

I believe the bars are not clocked...but I'll be honest in that I clocked the sockets on the new lower control arms to match the orientation of the hex on the bar...so if they were a few degrees off, I probably wouldn't have noticed.

Are you running the car at a lowered stance or stock ride height?

Thanks

Lowered down. I haven't settled on a final ride height before a professional alignment but the tops of the front tires are inside the wheel arches.

We had run a similar zero clock design for number of years as the majority of the customers back then were looking to lower their cars with no complaints. But about 5 years ago we had a number of customer complaining about the "zero clocked" bars as they didn't like how low the stance was ( You can read about it in the archives on this forum) even though we noted in our catalog that they were for a lowered stance. Since then we had our engineers redesign our 1.03 bars with 20* of clocking so it would provide the best of both worlds. They would allow a stock or lowered stance without sacrificing ride quality.

I'm running the PST 1.03" bars and they are great. You can't beat the price, discount, and free shipping!

I'd be curious how the Sway-Away 1.08" bars would ride like and handle.

Either of these bars will work best with the right shock. KYB's are NOT going to cut it. You'll need the Bilsteins or better.

Unlike cam shafts bigger is always better when it comes to torsion bars...I have 1.14s in one of my cars and no who rides in it even notices any harshness or ever mentions about it riding stiff.
I would have used 1.18” bars but the would have require some header clearancing so I dropped a size... the Valiant rides better than my 2012 Mustang GT, which is pretty good considering the Mustang was the last of the solid axle performance cars.
I would go PST 1.03s if you are on a budget as it’s hard to be their price ...add some Viking shocks and you will be smiling.

The SwayAway torsion bars are not zero clocked, they’re clocked at 15*, it’s right in the description for the A-body torsion bars.

I have a set of clocked 1.03 bars in my 440 dart absolutely love them.

I see they have 1.24” bars ...l bet those are close to the same size as the socket they go through, you might have to fit those from the front.

The sockets are 1.25". The 1.24" bars are as large as you can go, unless you change out the anchors for C body anchors and have custom bars made. If I remember correctly that was done for some of the old NASCAR/circle track cars.

A 1.24" bar would have a wheel rate over 450 lb/in though. You'd need some really sticky tires to make that work.
