Starting a mild 360 magnum build, goal is a strong stock stroke daily driver.
Block is out of the hot tank and the bore was good ...but it will end up going 30 over due to local parts suppliers not having any stock bore pistons... I will Dyno and post results

RockAuto shows Enginetech std bore pistons in stock. Bet there are others that have them.

If overboring, why not put in something better?

If the bores are good, straight and round with no noticeable ridge, why bother paying to bore .030" over and having thinner cylinder walls? Use the cost of boring to pay to get a set of standard bore hyperutectic pistons shipped accross the border.
Not being negative, just wondering.

Wow! Everyone shittin on the mans thread and he ain’t even gotten started yet.

So warm and fuzzy it just makes me want to start a build thread!

I went .030 over due to parts availability also. Machine shop said .010 would probably clean up my magnum block. .020 would get it right for sure. My dad had a set of new .030 KB pistons for free so thats what I had done.

What heads and cam are you using?

The pistons are silvolites and they had them local along with the rest of the bottom end parts... so I grabbed them. I don’t think the fresh bore will hurt.... plus it keeps the local machine shop opened

And you get more cubic inches when bored over! Makes it sound so cool and powerful when you explain what the motor is.

EQ heads and a lunati cam the J.Rob recommended based on some info I gave him

Sounds like a good plan. I like the Magnum 360 for street builds, so I am looking forward to the dyno results.

I will Dyno the magnum this fall, I have to take a 340 out of one of my other cars to re-ring it so I will use the old chrome TTI headers from that car on the dyno.

Don't you know you're a moron for not putting a 4" stroke steel crank in there? It's practically free and they rpm like crazy--at least that's what I'm told. Also you NEED Edelbrock or some other aluminum heads on that combo or else it won't be much better than a 318 2bl. Also that cam that this J.Rob (sounds sketchy AF to me) recommended better feature an LSA of no more than 101-102 if you want a real driveable and enjoyable engine. Lastly and this one's for YR or Madscientist or whatever screen name he hasn't been banned under--You are a fool if you don't use TS Gapless rings 'cuz why wouldn't you throw away $400-$500 cdn for all the "benefits" LOFL. J.Rob

Whoa! Stop right there! Why are you re-ringing the 340? Moving to a gapless top? J.Rob

I’m just waiting for my inheritance to arrive from Nigeria and I will get me some of those parts... money should be here soon I sent the administrator fees to Western Union.... to someone named J.Rob

I could help anyone out who needs a set of .30 over 340 gap less rings, I have a low mileage used set up for grabs ... mint condition, well lubed.

What do you mean well lubed? J.Rob

Sounds like trouble is brewing north of the border LOL

While I have the 360 magnum crank in my hand...and at the machine shop, could it be drilled for a bushing in case I want to put a 4 speed on front of it?

i had a friend like that.No matter what i did his immediate response
was "you know what you should have done".

My stock mag crank was drilled for the input shaft depth.

Are these silvolites stock compression height or "destroked" rebuilder pistons?
if destroked you mostly lost your quench
did you measure deck clearance on the stock pistons before you pulled it down? what was it?
and BTW what's wrong with re-ringing the stock pistons?
I'm thinking you will need a thin headgasket and even so may not get down to the .030-040 ideal quench distance
so you may end up needing to deck the block- and if you measured all four corners you know if it's square already LA can be all over the place- IDK about Magnum i hear they are better
I used +.020 KBs in one of my last 360 builds but I think that was an LA block not magnum
