Hello everyone , I recently installed a new power steering gear box in our 1966 Dart. I rebuilt steering column , drained and cleaned pump. When I started car I rotated steering all the way right to left at least 8 times. I held slightly at end of turn to put a bit of pressure on system to bleed. Turned off car. Restarted car and gearbox turns by itself to left. I rotated again thinking I did not cycle system to get all air out. Still when running gearbox turns wheels to the left. They will go all the way to stop. I am figuring a defective steering box but thought I would ask if anyone knows of an in-car adjustment that can be made. On some older model GM cars there is a 7/16 nut under a cover on gearbox you can access. You turn nut slightly either way to take the "self turning" out of box. Thought I would ask the best before I pull gearbox back off. Thanks all for your time and help. Ed

You need to fine-tune the 'block' where the high pressure hose enters the steeringbox.
It listens very closely so just loosen the bolts slightly, and lightly tap the block up or down.

Hi BigBlockMopar , WOW!!! Best explanation ever! Thank you so much for your help. Looking forward to the nice tight steering on our Dart! Thanks again... Ed

Hello everyone , just an update. I went out and performed adjustment sent by BigBlockMopar and it worked first try. Cant thank BBM enough but from my heart thank you. We do not have much in finances or experience. This site makes people like yourself available to people who are trying to learn and keep these fantastic vehicles on the road. I can express the thanks and appreciation to you all and this site. You have help my son and I on occasion when no answers could be found. Thank you all. Ed

Thanks for reporting back and glad it worked out alright.
BigBlockMoper! You nailed that one down. I had rebuilt my steering box in my project car "Tetanus", almost a year ago. Working on getting the 5.7 to fire up and I decided to put the cordless drill on the PS . It made a hard RH turn. Bumped the high pressure block down about 3/16" and she centered right on target. Thanks for the memory stimulation :)

I know this is an older thread, but was very helpful. After installing a rebuilt box and driving it for the first time today, it was really pulling to the left. I couldn’t understand why it would need an alignment for just the gearbox. That wasn’t the problem, the solution was like BigBlock said. Just had to play with it, my first try made the wheels go all the left parked by themselves. Never would have know, problem solved!
