Cruise control will not work .

dartman . where do I start to check for power?
I checked for power at the servo where the 2 wires plug in and No power there when tuning the switch on column off and on with a test light
the 2 wires that plug into the servo are really loose when plugged in. bad connection

In my post with the pics of the wiring diagram and of the harness, I've pointed out where each of the terminals go - to the cruise function on the turn signal switch, to the brake switch, to the servo and to power. Should point you in the right direction! Good Luck!

sooooooo , does it matter if the speedo is jumping around and not steady ? will that effect it ? with the speedo fluctuating up and down ... will the servo just set the speed where I set it at at that time ? or will it speed up automatically (like going up a hill ) like a newer system would .never had this older system to see how it works .

The male connector by the brake light switch, is for power. If it's the speedo that's bouncing, it will be ok. If it's the cable from the trans to the servo, that's the one that has to be rock steady.

What Jaws said about the male connector. If the speedo is bouncing, it’s either the speedo itself or the cable from the servo

By the wiring schematic and color coding of the wires, the power wire goes to the controller at the steering column. Once the controller is turn on, then and only then will you have power at the other terminal(s) at the servo. The three other wire from the controller route to the brake switch (which must be a 4 terminal switch) and to the servo. The blue wires to the brake switch cause the servo to disengage the cruise when the brakes are applied. Hope this helps
 
I was up under the dash , here are two pics of what I see the green wire should be the black in the diagram so I have to trace that green , there is a dark blue that is just hanging there that is not hot , don't know where that came from . the second pic is where some wires plug into the brake pedal switch .
I'm still not seeing where the power comes from . another source?

OK , I missed that about the mail connector is power . looks like a brown plastic plug that might have clipped onto something that is hanging there. nothing plugged into it. it's by the 3 wires that come thru the firewall. someone may have tpped into for power . I have to check if hot / power .

ok...... the blue 2 wires that come from the brake switch in #2 pic .... one has pulled out of plug where is attaches to. don't know if it was intentional or not but......the other blue wire of that 2 wire plug ....... goes to the 4 pt. plug to column and the other blue wire that pulled out of plug goes to the one wire plug on servo . I checked the brake light switch where these 2 blue wires are attached to ( round do giggy ) no power there at any time . still haven't found the power wire yet. appears that the Green wire is hot on my harness. correct?

Looking at my harnesses, there is a solid blue wire from cruise controller at the turn signal that goes to one of the terminals on the 4 terminal brake light switch. The other blue wire at the brake switch is actually blue with a white tracer that goes to the single terminal on the servo and serves to provide power to the servo when the brake is not depressed. The reason for the extra terminals on the brake switch is that when the brake is not depressed it provides the power to the servo through a connection within the brake switch when the cruise controller is in the ON position. When the brake is depressed, it cuts power to the servo as a safety measure.

On the cruise controller itself, the ON/OFF switch connects the ON Side to the solid blue wire to the brake switch. The other wires on the controller control the other functions of the cruise. The OFF obviously turns everything off.

In your harness I’m guessing that the green wire is your hot wire and should be connected to a source in the harness or fuse box that is hot ONLY when the ignition is in the RUN position.

I will be using the cruise harness and 4 terminal brake light switch in both my 65 wagon and 47 Dodge.
 
#2 pic is the brown plug end with a green wire from the 4 plug in connector. #1 pic is the connector where the two dk blue wires come from the brake switch . one wire has pulled out dangling there.
could it be that the end with the brown connector with green wire is the power source ? Thanks what I'm thinking .

IIRC that green wire goes to the heater blower switch. Use a piggyback connector on the green wire then your cruise power wire. Make sure both blue wires are connected to the brake switch. It “should” work unless there’s an actual issue with the servo.

I'll take a jumper wire from the key operated heater blower fuse box and touch it on the plastic brown plug end and see what happens. then also connect that blue wire that is dangling there to the plug end .. . cross my fingers . see if it turns it on at least.
 
I dont think it will do anything unless your above 24 mph.


According to the 71 FSM (which is where all my info is coming from), 30 MPH is about the minimum for the cruise to kick in. According to the section on the cruise, it takes all 3 - electrical, vacuum and speed - all working in combination to enable the cruise to work. If you don’t have a FSM that covers the later style Cruise Control (70 or so), MyMopars has later manuals with the appropriate info available to download. To troubleshoot cruise issues (both factory and dealer add-on), it’s a necessity!
 
should the plug end connectors at the servo be tight when plugged in. Mine are all loose and not a tight connection . any way to tighten them by bending the tab without cracking the plastic on plug?
 
at what plug on the servo will be power (HOT ) to check and see if I power is on . will it click or something when you turn it on ?
just hoping I don't fry the whole system out .

the top one I pulled out of a 73 or 74 Swinger and was factory installed. The bottom one is a NOS unit from 1970/71, which I will be using in my 65 Dart wagon since it looks more period correct than the top one.

Sooooo , the single wire at servo will show to be hot/power when on?
 
If you have vacuum and the cables are turning and the Set switch is working, you should have some kind of steady speed at cruise.. keep us updated!

It's working like a charm ! I forgot to mention about the graphite on the end of the servo cables . the speedo is steady now .
I am so Happy now ! I greatly appreciate all you help especially 65 dartman that walked me thru all of this step by step.. You guys here are the greatest people ever. Love this site !
