Trying to purchase a 1968 Dart GTS 383 4 speed. Concourse rotisserie restored QQ1. Has broadcast sheet. Early 68 with front nose grill piece. Beautiful car, we can't agree on price. What would the value be. Thanks

i know this isn't going to help, but the value is exactly whatever you two decide it is. that's how economics works

How about throwing us a bone. Others will also suggest posting pictures of it too. What is the asking price and what price are you countering with?

A few folks ask similar questions and it’s only a one information path whereby the person asking the questions takes the feedback but doesn’t return the favor with what they paid for the car!

The asking price was $45,500.00, I offered $40k the owner said $42k. I am told the value is between $35k and $39k. I have owned GM muscle cars only, this is my first Mopar that I'm interested in. Do you know anything about motor stampings. I'm told early production GTS Darts had no stamping on the motor, not sure. Thanks for your help.

When I bought my house we were battling over a few thousand. The realtor had been showing me houses for almost a year. He said something like “Would you regret it if you didn’t get it over a few thousand”

It’s just money you can always make more.

Thanks for the additional context.

Chrysler started stamping partial VIN’s on the engine blocks in 1968. Others more knowledgeable about the 1968 details will chime in about exact timing but, from what I’ve read, it was hit and miss on if an assembly plant started at the beginning of the 68MY (August 1967) stamping the partial VIN’s or if it was part way through the 68MY on the engine blocks.

When someone advertises a “numbers matching” Mopar and it’s pre 1968 (or even an early build 1968MY) they are not being honest as there were no VIN numbers on the block or transmission matching the VIN. Prior to 1968 it was just a stamping date on the block, so as long as the block was cast prior to the build date of the car, that’s the only way to suspect it might still be the original engine.

As far as i am concerned.. 340's are worth more than a 383 car any day...........

hi, I have a 383,4speed GTS and its all numbers matching with all the paper work with the car,
there was only 991 built with 383 and a 4 speed mine is appraised in the 35k to 38k bracket I would not sell it for 42k, so IMO if its totally restored and everything is correct on it
its worth the 42k
but that's my opinion
mine have the block stamped but it like one of the last 68GTS made that year
hopefully you can make a deal with him on the price, good luck

My nov 67 scheduled production date Barracuda has numbers on motor.

The original undercoating inside the quarter panels has been changed. Happens most times when repro quarters put on.

Car has ok detailing but not that extra step of fine detailing. Missing blackout behind grilles. Full painted undercarriage were should be grey primer and fogged with color from sides.

Does the seller provide before restoration pictures? Ownership history? Very important.

383 4 speed darts typically have rough histories. Fenderwalls replaced for fender wall headers, radiused/cut 1/4’s for big tires.

It’s a car I would want a personal inspection. And by someone that knows Abodies.

Thing is.... clean 68 Dart /6 cars are (in recent history) pretty cheap and make an easy car to swap numbers from a raced out rusted out 383 4 spd car. A lot of the potential buyers of this high end Abodies don’t come from an A-body background. Add those 2 things together, and you better watch you back.

If its the one listed on Moparts its been for sale for some time. That tells me he's asking to much.

No more than 30 000

For a restored top and bottom GTS 383 4 spd hardtop with buildsheet and fender tag I think $30K TOPS is not realistic in today’s world.

Now this one has some incorrect resto items and some glanced over areas were “ok” were reused or passed over. It’s nice, just not top flite resto.

Now there might be better detailed or numbers motor, sheet, and tag for $35-$40K. Or there might not.

Realize, top level resto’s are $70K and up or so.

If everything checks out $40K for that car is not unreasonable. Not that I'm any kind of expert, but I think there are a lot of guys on here who have no idea what it would cost to duplicate that. One thing though: you must go look at it, hear it, and drive it. You can't spend that kind of money without really checking it out in person.
