Cinnamon 75 Duster \

Got it.... Aside from me just trying to figure out what I spent, I wanted to show how all the little things added up. I know I am still missing a few things, maybe a few $100... This is about as cheap as it gets if you are going to do a complete rebuild. Basic stock stuff. No machine shop engine work. No body and paint shop etc.

Did a long overdue oil change today- time wise anyway. first one since I put the engine back together over 4 years ago. Had about 500 miles on it. Put in Quaker State 'Defy' 10W-40 Syn Blend and using a Purolator PL30001 filter.
 
My original upper panel on passenger door was damaged. I bought one a few years ago -only to find it was cracked when I finally got around to putting the interior together. I tried repairing it more than once unsuccessfully. So, while it looked OK, it was high on my want list to keep an eye out for a replacement.
Sometime last year my neighbor mentioned that his uncle had a 74 Duster that he might be able to get parts from. 'OK, let me know' Well, his uncle passed away recently and they got the job of clearing out MANY cars to liquidate the estate. Including of course the Duster. Initially he was considering building it, but it turned out to be EXTREMELY rusted out. They tried to sell it and it was too far gone. So, it was headed for the crusher. Right place right time. I got to strip it! First piece I got was my treasured door piece - now on my car.

But it didn't stop there... I got all the trim, complete doors, disc brakes and control arms, sail panels. I will be trading up a bunch of trim to my car for pieces with dings in them. So far have the doors and back glass on CL -stuff I don't want to deal with shipping. Might put some up for sale here, but probably take a trunkload to Carlisle. :thumbsup:
 
Thats a shame about the rusted out Duster.But some must be sacrificed to save others...

Another few years and I could have just picked the trim and glass out of the rust pile. :eek: Every time I jacked it up it crunched and flexed. Chunks of rust were falling everywhere.

Yikes! When the frame crystalises like that,you can probably just sweep up whats left and call it a day.That is a very rough car. Anything can be fixed,true. But why would you want to if your not in love?

Swapped out a few more 'upgrade parts' from the 74. Both sides of the front section of the drip rail and the upper sections of the back glass. I did have to remove one ding from a back piece. Worked it closs from the inside, sand, polish etc. I found that the kits for doing plastic headlights with a drill also do a nice job on trim. There are no 'hard bends' in my other pieces, so all could be fixed. Just nice when you have another one ready to go when you pull one off... And I don't feel like working that hard.LOL.

I have wanted to get rid of the black wiper blades for a while now. I bought a pair of 15" originals a Carlisle last year but as far as I can tell 16" is correct (and clears a little more area) Trico Classics look OK at about $25 a pair, but they only go up to 15".
Anco has 16" in
their similar offering called 'Vintage', but are double the price of the Trico! I will look for 16's next week at Carlisle, but in the meantime needed some new wipers for the trip. Decided to do some custom work... Got these CARQUEST blades at Advance. Already had aluminum paint. Disassemble, paint and put back together. With online order discount, was just over $10 for the pair. :thumbsup:

You are kind of personal inspiration for me. Restoring that car and making it look as good as you did is awesome!
 
Showed it at Carlisle Friday and Saturday! Between shopping, looking at other cars, selling stuff and having fun with my FABO friends I completely forgot to take any pictures. This is the best I can do. LOL

Then today, I finally took possession of this beautiful front bumper thanks to a great deal from @John Cailey and cross county delivery by @Mopar Tim who was coming out to Carlisle and picked it up in Phoenix. :thumbsup: :thankyou:

Best year ever for me! Drove the Duster there with a trunkload of parts. Hung out with a bunch of FABO brothers in the vending area that shared some space - sold a bunch of my extras.
I assume you have been there? Has Aaron? It truly is an incredible experience!

Never had the pleasure. Next year for sure. Need to get @AlV to be there also
 
Doing a little cleanup on the bumper. Some light rust inside. Heaviest rust was in the bumperettes and even that was just surface. No pitting or scale like I cleaned out of the one on it now. (I've cleaned more rust off plastic from locally obtained parts, LOL) Then a spritz of primer and paint. Soaking the hardware and spring tabs in vinegar. Could have swapped it onto the car as received, but with a little effort now, this thing should be good another 43+ years.
