I hope this is the right place for this.

My wife and I just learned some unfortunate news. We have 5 days to leave our apartment in Las Vegas. We will be heading to Austin TX in my 79 Aspen wagon, with our cat. I'm seriously worried about the wagons ability to make the trip, but I have no other option. I'm writing this in hopes to spread the word to anyone on the way that might be able to help out in an emergency situation. I'm not looking for charity or a hand out, just maybe a friend if something bad happens. I don't care about myself, just trying to make sure my wife and cat aren't stuck in 100+ degree weather because of my poor judgement. Anything will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Jared

carry plenty of drinking water...and a few gallons for the car....be safe

I’d take the shortest route there even if it is an 8 minute slower trip. You won’t be breaking landspeed records in the Volare so best to minimize the total miles even if the speed limits are 5 to 10mph Lower.

My thoughts exactly, but I might take the longer(southern) route to avoid mountain passes. Will be driving at night, 60 mph max.

Make sure all fluids are topped off. Check the condition of your belts and hoses, air pressure in the tires. Take a quart or 2 of oil to complement the water. Enjoy the views on the drive. Be safe.

Wait!
You can fit everything you own into that wagon, and still have room for the wife and cat?

Shoot, I'd need about a hundred wagons, just for my junk, and my wife would still have to sit on the roof with the cat and her 2 dogs, lol. And I haven't even got to the furniture yet. Boy, I'll tell ya, when we expire, my kids are gonna hate us, for all the junk we leave behind, for them to clean up....... I've been collectingchit since 1969.

Here's wishing you a safe and pleasant journey

Jared, you'll will make it,just watch the gauges and relax and enjoy the ride.
I pm you my phone number.
Good luck,
Martin

The apartment where we are staying is fully furnished, so its pretty much just clothes going with us. I'm somewhat of a minimalist and my wife is too(for a woman) not too much stuff. But we are still young, I'm 29 and she is 24 so we have some years to add to the collection. Thanks again for the well wishes.

Good luck and help make Austin un-weird for us.
I ain't normal, but i ain't Austin weird either! My wife was born and raised there and I know she misses it. I'm just glad to be leaving Vegas, although quite abruptly, its a terrible city to live. Technically we will be in Bastrop/Cedar Creek, I'm done living in the middle of a big city. Thanks for the well wishes!

I always take the middle route and avoid El Paso. Plus the view is better and their is nothing going through lower New Mexico may be a little cooler weather next week will be 105 in San Antonio and 106 in El Paso. There are also more places to stop and rest.

I think that is the route we will take. More stops/people/gas stations. There is a lot of nothing on the southern route, not a great place to break down. How's it been at night? We will probably drive 10 pm to 10 am ish, trying to avoid the heat with no a/c.

No A/C !!, Oh to be young again......
At 65 now, I have developed a very narrow comfort zone. ~23*C give or take a degree. I think that might be 73/74*F
When it gets up to 88, I ain't going outside. And by 68, I'm covering up.
Hmmmmmmmm, I had a 24 year old minimalist wife once. Now the only thing minimal between us, is maybe the time we spend under the covers together, lol.

I hear that! My plan was to get us to Washington state on the west coast where its never above 80°F, it didn't work out. My wife loves the heat, she is crazy for sure.

I am no help, 4 hrs East of Austin and my trailer still sits at old place in Missouri! Texas HOT!.... Yes HOT, 100-106 I hate to say, but the humidity is a little lower ( NO humidity in an oven right?). It will cool down to 99 by next Wed.
I understand Austin is one of the fastest growing areas in the US so expect everything to be expensive.
Good luck and God Bless.

If you decide to go through Tucson you can reach out for help here! I will send a PM.
