I've given it a lot of thought and I think this is where I want to go. I would appreciate your ideas/recommendations.

Presently I have a problem riddled Edelbrock Performer 650.

Thx in advance.

Hi P,

I am in the process of doing a similar swap. I am using a FiTech setup (including the Fuel Command Center - which is now part of the G-Tank). Install has been relatively straightforward, though I haven't started on the wiring just yet.

Lots of info here on the FiTech setups in the FiTech thread, and there is some great youtube stuff out there as well ("early V8 bronco" has some good videos on his install that were definitely worth watching).

Good Luck!

JB

I did mean EFI. Been a rough day.
Don't worry about it if it only your first one, you will no doubt have many more...let us know how your EFI came out.
I have a friend who replaced his dual quads on his blown 340, he says it was fast with carbs and now it is scary fast and much smoother startups than before.

I have really fallen in love with the sniper setup. I sell the distributors, fuel systems, and everything to make it work. Would love to work with you if you go this route.

Not to hijack the thread, but @ JMac, do you have a distributor that works with the FiTech setup, and is already locked out to let the FiTech box control the timing?

I have a 2 wire that is easily locked out. Yes. And the phasable rotors. Smallblock?

I’m fighting with a Holley Sniper on my 408 Duster right now. Ran great for 6 weeks, now if it starts barely idles. They are telling me rfi issues. Not totally sold in that. The connections come out of the Sniper (and I bet the Fitech too) right by the distributor and wire bundle by the firewall. Doing it again I would put shielding in the wires during the install. Then again, know a guy that put one one his 408 Dart, no issues. So wtf?

It's really hit or miss with the rfi issues. I have seen all kinds of stuff cause interference on all the systems. Best recipe for success is to start with the correct ignition components, and then go about wire shielding if/as needed. I have seen an MSD box make a garage door go up and down...the automotive world is full of electronics "noise" but...95 percent of the efi systems I have sold or installed have proven pretty trouble free however. I again like the sniper, but have had decent luck with others also.

I agree, probably most are trouble free. You just hear more from the guys (like me) that have issues. But I’d still shield the wires before install if I had to do it again. It’s cheap, and a lot easier when the harness is on the bench than when strung out in the engine bay. Help eliminate one potential issue.

I put an MSD Atomic setup on my 340. Its only run on the test stand so far but damn im impressed. Started right up, new engine. Broke in the cam with no problems.
Im also running aeromotive stealth in tank pump. Pricy but its a nice setup.

I have the Holley Sniper on my 408 and it works great. Hit the key and go. I had a few problems in the beginning but those were due me not setting it up correctly. I don't control the timing or anything, let it "learn" and it's been good to go.
I did run that same carb as you on a 340 and it was flawless, not sure what problem you're having, mine did work great, but the efi is much better overall.

I have the Fitech set up on a 64 dart 318 4 speed. I went with there inline fuel pump. I am now on my third pump. First one would not seal, second went out on me on july 8th. the third one makes a strange sound intermediately at idle now. I will see how long this one lasts. So my suggestion is to get a replacement tank with an in tank fuel pump from tanks inc. I did have to rewrite the software and reset the learn a few times. Discovered, thanks to someone here on this forum that the battery drain issue I was having was caused by the handheld controller . I unplugged it when the car is off and the problem was solved. I run a stock electronic distributor, tried msd at Fitech's suggestion and it would not idle at all. As I think back now it could have been a rotor phasing issue. Been on the car for a little over a year. Taken long trips with it and it definitely has more torque and better power than the Edelbrock 600 that I had on previously.

Also, there is a member selling a FiTech setup on the site now for $800, which is a smokin' deal!

I put one of the earlier 600hp fitech setups on my 67 dart.

Many upgrades later and very close to the 600hp area. I had to switch to a better in tank pump. Aeromotive Phantom setup.

The external pumps were burning out and not able to supply enough fuel pressure. I went thru 2 walboros and the one fitech pump. This year I made the jump to more pump.

340 stroked to 418
Indy 360-1 heads ported by shady Dell
Biggest lunati solid roller cam (734 rings a bell) (Ryan specd the cam for me)
And I run 4.30 on 28" tire.
Waiting for a day to make a run at the track

Can you provide the information ( part numbers) for your in tank set up. I am on my third inline fuel pump with the fitech set up

Aeromotive 18688 is the fuel system 340 lph at 90 psi

I made my own custom stainless fuel cell because I mini tubbed and wanted exhaust out the back and wanted 20 gallons and still have usage of trunk

Interested in knowing everything I would need to buy to get my 340 stroker setup properly (I have a new stock gas tank and fuel lines/mechanicalpump in place already). Not really a fan of the look of the bulky fuel command center thing under the hood though.
Thanks,
Doug

Here is the sniper, and the inline pump kit. Then beyond this, we need to make sure your ignition components are compatible, or you'll need those too. several options from us depending if you want to control timing or not. let me know, glad to help.

Thanks, I did buy the MSD Billet dist. and the adjustable rotor as well. Haven't fired the engine yet. Waiting for some dyno time to do so.
