SS Springs on 75 Duster

-
well....rethinking about this...so close....going to take a look in morning as ...how much crap is in the way to just drop the trans...since unlike the other bracket cars have a CSR shield and it is almost impossible to get trans out by itself...so I pull motor and trans...the car is up in the air on a 2 post hoist...

well..the removal of he engine out of the AAR went smooth yesterday....so moving on....rethinking this....I am going to attack this duster and hopefully have it done this week...i am going to pull the engine and trans together...so tomorrow i should have it ready to pull on Tuesday.....repair trans..which i dont know what is wrong....probably cut the front seal putting the converter in it....

got everything done today to pull engine hopefully tomorrow...have to move engine hoist from my house back to garage....

heat and humidity still here....thunderstorms suppose to move out this weekend...back to 110 too...dry heat...lol

yanked the motor/trans out today....separated them and count not see anything that that saying I am leaking here.....my guess since it leaked without running...I would eliminate the front seal...my guess pump gasket...or pump oil ring....will see

well..that was an easy fix...someone left all the pump bolts loose...dumb ***...

Ok...engine back in car .....putting the headers on....Should be up and running easily but Saturday.....still got to get a seat mounted in the car...plus finish the truck floor...should have it out at the track in sept......get some pictures and video once it is running.

Keep up the good work Tony. Reading this thread almost makes me feel like I’m standing in the garage watching you work.

Got most of everything hook back up....put tranny fluid back in 904...and nothing leaked...that is an improvement...
Driver side headers is the biggest thing left to do.....going to drop the drag link to make it easier...
still need to see what the problem is with the electric fuel pump...going to redo the ground wire...and see what else could be causing the problem

still on schedule to have it running saturday.....or at least sunday....Have to haul AARCuda to paint/restore shop that day also.

headers are on...fixed the fuel pump...minor wiring problem...just need to fix the wring on the water pump and fan.....changing out connectors to make it easier to disconnect and reconnect if ever needed.....going to adjust rockers again before firing it up again....

moving AARCuda in Sunday morning talked to the guy this morning...

Adjust valves...fixed the wiring for the water pump and electric fan.....electric fuel pump is still being a PIA....not sure if it is the pump or the relay....going to bypass relay and wire it directly to 12 volts..

Any way....got it running ...and THEN...LOL....hose to trans cooler blew one end off....so much of push loc hoses...LOL...might have been the initial sure of pressure...but put a clamp it....
And top brand new (i think I have the new one on) started pissing water at the thermostat housing......

Got some Clean up to do...ATF...

Going to get it moved out of the Garage and move 71 Duster into that bay.....

well as they say..**** happens....and today it did again...

had to put 2 qts of tranny fluid since that line came apart....so I fill radiator with water...turn on pump no leaks...ok...turn on fuel pump it runs and continues to run...
so everything looks good to start engine and check transmission...jack up rear....engine fire on the 1st crank....idling a little fast...ok...going to run trans thru gear....pull into 1st gear..wheels turning...pull 2nd and 3rd gears....i can hear pitch of engine change with load...back wheels turning correct direction....back to neutral...into reverse....wheel moving correct direction...bingo..pops the other line going from the trans cooler....ATF going on floor again...hit kill switch....repair line...wont ever buy this hose and fittings...
ok...here we go again....figured I lost at least qt of tranny fluid. put 2 more qts in trans..fire up car again...check dipstick...need a couple quarts...ok.....i adjust the idle...then wing the carb once...pop...bing bang... shut it off...so WTF now...pull valve covers off ...and on passenger side I see a pushrod with out the cup....i remove shaft with rockers...as picture shows...it had broke off...and 3 more had cracks in the cups...ok...these are old pushrods...been around for years and used ....but chromemoly pushrods..either crane or comp...

I called Smith Bros and ordered a new set.....

went and bought 3 bags of kitty litter to clean floor.....tomorrow..

new pushrods arrived yesterday and were installed...got valves all readjusted due to slightly longer pushrod...

but the heat is killing me...lol...

no car work today had wellness check up....had to fast to give blood...passed the senility test too

going to start it back up and move it tomorrow with no seat in the car....see how that works out....I got alot of kitty litter to sweep up..

You passe a senility test after doing as much work on these cars as you do????
AMAZING!!
I appreciate you're pushing through, it's giving me incentive to do my car.

yeah...i must be senile to work on all this crap.....anyway
Fired it up this afternoon..,,,,had a noise in the valve train on each side...after just buying new pushrods and hold downs...I thought WTF now
took the covers off....ran through the valves....nothing.....ok...i got some cheap *** chrome valve covers on it....fire it up without valve covers...no noise...
swap out covers for a set of the mopar cast aluminum valve covers.....fire it back up....did some carb adjustments.....then it ran out of gas.....
at least i am moving forward at this point...

Ok...i got to call it quits for now on this car...between the heat and humidity from the monsoons...

I still have a few issues with this car....over heats rather fast....but then again...it probably 110 in the garage to start with...got a brand new 3 core aluminum radiator...but I can only get a 12 inch electric fan on the 22 inch core...I need to measure that radiator again as it bolts in directly...I do have a stock 26 inch and 22 inch from other cars...being that this was a slant 6 pretty sure it came with a 22 inch ......do some measuring in the morning air..

I gotta get to work on the 71 duster before I get fired.....

and going on vacation on wednesday for a week and half....Oregon Coast here I come....
