On my original 1974 radio there are just two wires a red and a orange. I assume red is + power, but what is orange?

Orange in Mopars is dash dimmer controlled lighting. Same as your dash lights.

67 thanks. I'm installing a aftermarket radio, so I won't need the orange for anything right- just tape it off?

Might go to the after market yellow or orange if it has a dimmer feature.

Depends.......many aftermarket radios have a separate wire for the dash lamp just like your original. If not yes, tape it off. Put it in back of your mind, IE you install an accessory gauge panel, there is your lighting tap.

If a radio has a separate light wire- then it is tied into dash lights and will dim. If a radio has no separate light wire- then the light in the radio goes on with the radio and is not dimmable.

Ok, so the aftermarket radio (older am/fm cassette) has a yellow wire that shows it going to a positive separate from the red. It does not say dimmer, but I guess it will go to the orange-right?

I would just try it...........hook it to a source and see if the light comes on LOL
