I got on my 69 Dart yesterday for short distance, to merge into traffic. When I let up I heard a clunk sound. So I got onto it again and it went sideways a little and the clunked. Looked at it today and noticed that the left axle spring perch welds were broken.
So now I have to take care driving until the end of the summer.
My question is do I just re-weld the axle perches or is there a different way to attach them and make them better. I am asking here first before I research it more.

"careful to the end of?" NO!!! You need to get that fixed. Those perches are all that keeps the axle under the car!!

Reweld it . You must clean the area thoroughly . I suggest that you take a piece of flat stock 1 1/2" wide and bent & weld strap from housing to perch to reinforce it .

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to get thru the season, but no. crap.
I will pull it and get it fixed, that is going to be a lot of work.

That’s not good. Pretty wild someone caught that on tape.

Could easily be welded without pulling the axle. Loosen the u bolts, reposition the axle and perch if needed. Snug up the bolts and wire wheel it then weld that baby up. I'm sure an exhaust shop would do it cheap if you don't have a welder. Check the opposite side for issues and might be a good idea to replace the u bolts.

One time at the track, after my burnout I did a dry hop with the nitrous. Yanked the wheels pretty high and heard a big clunk broke both spring perches. Lucky for me I didn’t run it! Pulled the rearend and had a good welder fix them. Never had a problem after that. It could of been a lot worse!

I talked to a weld shop that I use, and he is going to weld it, then this winter, I will pull it and do a good job.
thanks for the replies

I had mine break loose at the track. I shifted to second gear and BANG. The pumpkin turned straight up, mangling the pinion snubber pad on the body and of course broke the rear u-joint. Had to get towed off the track again. My fault, I forgot to fully weld them on, just had them tacked from when I set my pinion angle. It was like that for years before it finally broke. I’m a dumbass

They should be able to weld it up and you shouldn't have to worry about pulling the rear later. It's not that hard with the rear in the car.

Unfortunately I had the axle powder coated black. So a good winter project, now it is just to get it welded enough to get it through the summer, barring a kid in a Camaro, who thinks he is great.

I believe the factory welds we not the best either. You know, production work. If your going to build one, rehab/lengthen the welds.
