Black wrinkle MP covers leaking. I see alot of opinions about what gaskets to use.
Sorry cant do a search right now, my network giving me problems.
Thanks

Make sure they don't ride on the intake manifold

Ill check out the dog ears when I take them off tomorrow. The only leaking is the rear lower bolt right side. Ive checked for clearance from the intake and its good there. But thanks for the reminder when I put them back on.
Funny, I had a pair of these on my Coronet and they leaked in the same spot on those too.

Consensus? On valve cover gaskets? That's like askin consensus on poontang. Everybody likes somethin different.

I use these.

Mopar Performance Valve Cover Gaskets P5249581AB

You can play around with everything else, but those will be the last valve cover gaskets you even buy. They last forever.

Yup, Felpro cork gaskets and gasgasinch did the trick.

Thnx, Ill check for hairline cracks and whatnot.
But ill give those a shot.

Poontang? I want some!, whatever it is. I used Fel-Pro with a very thin smear of Permatex silicone just to hold them in place on the factory Formula S valve covers. I tightened them to spec, something light, like 15-18 INCH-POUNDS. I have pulled the covers off to do a valve adjustment without replacing the gaskets, never have I had a leak after reusing them. My two cents...

I use studs....no bolts...no silicone ....use a speed handle wrench to remove and tighten them...torque? what is that...LOL

You even seen those gaskets? No. Then hush up ya cheasp bastid.
No I've never seen A $64 gasket and I don't want to! And yes I'm a cheasp. My last $9.95 "improved" cork lasted til I changed them last week. or change them because they just seemed like they were getting those little flat and the gaskacinch wasn't holding them to the valve covers anymore. And of course I have my self-proclaimed Priceless valve covers LOL

I found that when I had the LA heads off of the engine, and I had machined the as-cast v. cover gasket surface on the heads flat, I had much less problem with gasket sealing afterwards.

No more cork gaskets for me.
They get brittle and leak over time i've found.
I use rubber ones only now with gasgacinch...........

Moroso Perm-Align gets my vote

SB Mopar 273 318 340 360 Steel Core Rubber Valve Cover Gaskets 3/16" Quality!!!! | eBay

got many sets of these in use....steel core reusable...free shipping

got 4 sets of the MP cast aluminum valve covers you have to grind the ridge on the cover where it goes over the intake port.....and then..and then...they dont leak until you leave the bolts loose.
I've been using these for years. Used them on my last 4 car's. Have a pair hanging on the wall. They work great.
