any real benefit to adding an msd 6al box to my 74 dart sport 318? Also if u have done it any pics and advice on how to wire it up exactly. Thanks

The 6 AL would be a big improvement over the stock box plus the added benefit of a rev limiter. You should pick up a little fuel mileage and easier starting.

If you already have the 6al, go ahead and use it. If you don't have one, and your motor is stock, or mild build, do the HEI conversion. The HEI can be done for about $50. You can use your stock distributor. You will not have rev limiter capabilities, it is not really needed with a stock or mild build. Also the multi spark is really not needed, and it only works below 3,000 rpm, anyway. The HEI will throw nall the spark you need.
PS: If the MSD should fail, it won't be a cheap repair/replacement, If you can get one where you are when/if it fails. If the HEI should fail, any auto parts store should have the parts.

So i guess that ultimately my question is that you start by unplugging the factory ignition box and ballast resistor? Then on the wires that went to the ballast resistor u cut the brown and dark blue and connect both to the small red wire going to the ignition box. Then the green and violet wires from the msd go to to the distributer?

No.
Unless the engine is modified such that there are misfires from reversion the answer is no.
If the burn is already pretty good, a CD ignition will not likely improve it. A good inductive can be better. It depends, but we're talking very minor differences.
The MSD electronics are slightly faster that the typical Chrysler box, so it may be better in the top end of 1/4 mile. There are other ways to address that.

If you do install it, leave the ignition wiring alone. It doesn't matter to the MSD if the 'on/off' wire is powered through the ballast resistor. That wire just signals the MSD to turn on. The MSD draws the power to run and for the capacitor through the heavy red wire. That's the one that should be attached close to a power source, either by the battery or the alternator stud.

Again I don't recommend it unless its needed.

Found an accel box that’s $150 so I might give it a whirl. Plus have a jegs coupon to use up. I’m still confused as to where people are hooking the small red wire. I searched on here and got a few different answers. What all wires need spliced on the voltage regulator?

K so leave regulator as is and wire exactly like this...oh and can the factory ignition box be unplugged and removed? Thanks for all the help
