One man Hood installation and removal tool

Thought I would share this with everyone, I built this today for $16.00 so I could remove and install the hood on my 72 scamp. Seen one online for around $200.00, thought I would build this one from 2 2x4x8 yp lumber. Mounted it on top of my engine hoist, had to do a little welding but not much, just a bracket on top of engine hoist.This thing works great, easy to take off of hoist and store out of the way. Might give someone some ideas.

The expensive one is called the "hood picker".

I was going to build one, but found a knockoff version for $39 and free shipping so was a better deal than buying the parts plus my labor.

Clamps to engine hoist and works great!
 
Wish I had that before I had my butterfingers friend help me. Needless to say I had the cowl repainted.

I wan`t raised , but wont go into that.
I JUST STICK MY HANDS IN THE SCOOP AND LEVER MY FOREARMS AGAINST THE HOOD AND LIFT IT OFF.

how about some details on your design ? I am trying to figure out how it secures to hood .... and how are you preventing it from pivoting on the Cherry picker arm ?
 
I have a boom on one of my posts on the hoist. With a winch on it. Just has to hold it up.
 
it "secures" to the hood by two pins at the end of the arms.
More like rests via gravity.

I got mine to rest in the vent cut outs.

could easily be drilled for longer bolts and have them catch on the windshield edge of the hood proper.
Although there are rubber sleeves on the pins as supplied.

It's basically made of angle iron.

Mine was cheap because (I surmise) both extension arms are the same (IE both have the angle iron oriented the same way making the assembly asymmetrical).

The "hard" part to make would be the part that attaches the arms to the engine hoist.
It's still angle iron, but it's welded with the tolerance of the thickness of the engine hoist square tube in mind.
