Hi,

I am running a super victor intake together with the MOPAR valve covers, we had some clearance issues with the intake and had to cut a small section of the cover to bolt properly. However we are still facing some oil leaking through the valve cover gasket. An ideas on how we can solve this issue without removing the intake and grind that little humb?
Are there any thicker gaskets out there? I have seen some spacers on ebay as well... Don't know if you recommend to use that.

Attached a pic of the isuue.

If the cover is hitting that hump on the intake, the hump needs to go cuz you can't cut more on the cover without really weakening it. Take the valve cover off and use a hand file to take the hump off. A vacuum while you file should keep the chips in control. Because you've removed material from the cover flange, the cover is more likely to flex as the bolts and leak in between them. I've seen little reinforcement bridges that go under the bolts and spread the pressure down the edges of the cover flange.

Thanks.... that will be one option indeed.

Had the same issue with my air gap intake. What I did was use about 3000 feet of masking tape to tape off the entire area where the valve cover would normally be on the head. Then I took a hand grinder and carefully ground the hump off of each runner on the intake. Then before removing all the masking tape I vacuumed everything, then blew it off with an air hose to be sure. Then I carefully removed the masking tape "valve cover" I had made and put the real valve cover back on.

Which valve cover gasket are you guys running?

I had the same problem but with a Victor W2 and fabricated covers. I can’t recall off the top of my head who makes them but they are a double layer of cork material with metal webbing in between. It will raise the cover enough to clear. The only downside is that they tend to compress over time so you need to retorque them every now and then.

That hump on the intake isn't providing any critical function I can determine unless Edelbrock covers utilize it somehow. Grind it off. The vacuum will get all the chips if you use a file. If you use a die grinder cover everything with old towels and use the vacuum during grinding and on the towels before you lift them off.

I believe the thick gaskets I use are Fel-Pro 1609.

As gzip mentioned, I’d have machined the edges down if my intake wasn’t already powder coated. So my only option was thick gaskets.

someone makes double thick cork gaskets. I'de glue 2 corks together with a wire center for rigidity before I would grind on anything.

My Air Gap and my Super Victor did the same thing. I run the Mopar Performance covers. I ground the seating surface of the valve covers at an angle to match the intake. You can't tell by looking at them unless they are off the vehicle and you look at the bottom. Then I use Fel Pro gaskets with GM silicone sealant. I never leak a drop anymore.

I`D GRIND THE INTAKE IN A HEARTBEAT !

The Super Victor is the worse of the bunch...I have mopar valve covers that have been cleared to fit the Air Gap and the Victor 340, but they still hit the SV intake. Yes there are spacers on ebay for sale....I took a different route...Sold the Super Victor...

I think I have a set in the shop, if they are there I'll post the p/n.

Thank you... will be pending to order a dew

I have a couple different thick gaskets, both are Fel-Pro, the first is a hard black material and is .200" thick, p/n VS50184R. The other is the double cork with a thin piece of preforated metal sandwiched in between, .300" and will compress some, p/n 1646.

Hope this helps.

Thabk you very much

I used the Medice Mfg spacers.
I assume with the SV intake you're not running stock rockers (or did you remove the baffles inside the valve covers)?

Too bad I didn't see this earlier. I have a set of MP valve covers that have already been modified. :BangHead::BangHead:

Which spacers are you referring to?

valve cover spacers (1/2"), I needed them to clear my aftermarket rocker arms since I wanted to keep the valve cover baffles.....I can take a pic if you'd like.....

While taking the pics, now I remember that I actually did indeed mill material from the edges of the injector bosses for clearance, unfortunately I cannot remember how much I removed though! Hopefully the pics help.
