My new Torque Converter today, and started pulling the motor to replace the TQ as i will be re wrapping my headers as well.
It a 9-1/2" converter.
Should be able to stand it on it back bumper now!

OK OK, so hoping to be able to have enough traction to see a little daylight under one front tire
When it's all said and done.

Man i'm really wanting to call in sick tomorrow:)

Awesome. Before switching to an 833 4 speed, My 69 341 Barracuda had a 727 in it. After building the engine up to about 375 HP, the car fell on it's face off the line, and didn't want to idle. Swapping out the stock converter for a 2400 stall converter made a HUGE difference. I hope your enjoyment with your converter is as much as mine was.
BTW, you are looking a bit flushed. Maybe you should call in sick tomorrow.

Yeeha, kinda looks like my turbo action 8" converter

Call in and say you need a day off to stalk your previous boss who would not give you a day off!
Good for you :thumbsup::D
I've had a good six months of experience with my first header wrap and so far so good.

Well i did call in sick, but sad to say i am:(. Haven't even open the garage door.

Feeling better, spent all day out in the garage.
eng out, converter in, eng back in and halfway back together.

The Mr Gasket Header gaskets for a Magnum fit the port on the RHS head perfectly! The last time i had this eng out, the two middle ports were off and i had to grind on the gasket to make them match up. When i put the gasket on the head to port match it, well i grabbed the package to put in my notes, this gasket Number so i would have it for the next time. That's when i read "magnum engs 93-2002.

Got all the old header Wrap removed last night. Today, hope to get it Wrapped, installed and running.
If i can i will be taking it to our local race track for some test stomps tomorrow.

What make the smaller torque converter better for racing?
I see all the drag guys running the tiny ones.

I'll be looking at a new converter this winter and trying to figure out the ins and outs of em.

Thanks.

Factory 11" converter could only be tweek to stall at 3000 rpm. This 9-1/2 converter will stall around 42-4500 rpm. aka better 60 foot times.
Like launching at a higher rpm with a clutch.
Aka if you wanted to launch or stall at 6000 rpm then you would probably need a 8" converter

You would need a hi RPM engine too !

better for the street too.. get higher stall and they are more efficient. .

went with a 9.5" in our dart. pure street car.. may see the track one day but driving it around it feels stock until you floor it.. freaking thing will take off like a bat outta hell. should also get 3000 rpm on the foot brake easily too...

what converter are ya coming from? man a good converter will feel awesome..

I love my ptc 9.5 converter. Flashes to about 3500 rpm. Can’t go wrong with ultimate. The more info you give the more happy you will be when it comes to a converter. Remember blue locktite the converter bolts.

Stockies converter that stall around 3200 rpm. new one should stall around 42-4500 rpm

Yup

Well it stalls at 4200.
Too late to take to the track for some test stomps. So i will have to wait until Saturday. Took it out on the street for a quick shake down but couldn't make it hook so i just don't know.

It feel tight on the street. Will just have to wait and see.
Somehow i thought it was going to be a lot looser(Not that i asked for that)

4 more days to wait to find my answers

I put a newer mopar started on it. Should have done that years ago!!!!!! Can remove starter without messing with the header, power cable don't get barbecued by the headers any more, spins my High compression motor over much better.........Negatives,...... Hmmmmmm. It cost me money.

I am curious why you took the engine out to replace the torque converter. All I did was pull the tranny from underneath the car, leave it on the tranny jack, swap converters, and then slide the tranny back it.

No hoist, I'm old, and i needed to wrap my headers any ways.

it should feel tight on the street.. thats how efficient it is.. if you are normal driving and just cruising it should feel almost stock.. when ya mash the pedal it should flash to whatever its set up to flash to...

This is my first real converter. In my minds eye, i thought it would almost free wheel until around 3500, then start to bit and full stall at 4200.
My Squirtes are on the ragged edge of not being large enough. figured it would be fine with my new converter. Will be taking them with me just incase it stumbles off the line.

My hope was 1 to 2 tenths in the 60' and then maybe a little bit more by the end.
was hoping to make my 8.01 1/8 mile E.T. run 7.75 to 7.80 esh. Now i'm not so confident.
But still excited to see what it will do!

in the 70's it may have been that way but converter technology has come a long way.

go out for a drive.. cruise along at say 30 mph. then mash the pedal to the floor and see where the rpm's go. they should fly up.

then see how high you can get the rpm on the foot brake before the car starts to move. it should be pretty high.

if that converter is built correctly to your combo you should be pretty happy with it... not sure you'll see 1-2 tenths in the 60' though...

On my way to see how my new converter will work?!
If it gets me solidly in to the 7's Im happy. If it don't, because i have traction problem, well , that will be proof of concept.
Look like its going to be a good day and good air(as good as you can get at 6600 feet.)

Well I'm happy! best E.T. before was a 7.98 and 60 foot in 1.809. (early spring, cool good air)
Best run today was a 7.86 and a 1.707 60 foot.
Mile per hour improve just slightly. usually run 86.2 to 86.6. to a best of 87.0 today.

The reason why all of this make me happy is that i normally run a 1/4 tank of fuel. Today, 3/4 tank of fuel.
Density altitude started the day in the 8800s and end at 9300 feet.
Not the 7.75 ET i was hoping for, but happy to be solidly in the 7's now.
One more reason to be happy is that i have successfully packed the front wheels off the ground. only a Inch, but it has happened:D

Well done!

Although more fuel (weight) on the *** helps the front rise...

Any way light under the fronts is a win!

yeah that's why i did it.
If i try too stall, at the light, above 2200 rpm, I push thru the lights and my 26x10 slick just won't hold. As it spin off the line.
I have lot of things to consider over the winter. One is how to put a bigger slick under this car without major surgery!

As well as suspension. If it hooks it goes straight! If it spins, the *** end walk to the left. First step is to see if i have air in the brake line. Air in my left front caliper could causing it to pivot on my right front tire at the starting line. had a lady take video of me leaving the line that really showed how goofy it left the line.
Every time i add some more power i say, I'm going to have to start learning how to tune the suspension.........That day has come!

When i was strapping down the rear end to my trailer. I noticed that my right SS Spring is starting to get a S bend in the front segment. I may have to change the position of the spring clamps to help this situation.

Any ways, just some thoughts on my mind, this morning.:realcrazy:

I had a custom built PTC converter in my 68 360 Cuda. Loved it!
