la 360 timing cover or 360 stock magnum cover

So I am looking to purchase a cam for my 2001 magnum 360 that came out of a ram van. I am looking to keep the stock magnum belt setup and timing chain cover. I have heard that you have to use a long snout cam if you use the la 360 timing chain cover and water pump, correct? What advantages/disadvantages in performance can I expect using the stock magnum timing chain cover and a cam that is not a long snout application. Any wisdom would be appreciated.
 
You almost have to use a long snout cam in a magnum. That's about all that's offered. I'm using a Hughes long snout cam in my 5.9 with the original magnum timing cover and accessories. You have to use a special washer and bolt. Hughes offers those pretty cheap.

Are you running stock heads?
 
Nope. EQ heads also from hughes. I think they call them super iron ram or something.

Hey it’s been awhile but wondered once I get the Hugh’s long snout and washer bolt kit will my stock pulleys and and water pump line up? Then what fuel pump will work? My engine is 2001 magnum 360 all stock currently. I’m gathering a parts list and your help would be awesome.
 
Are you still wanting to use the factory magnum timing cover and serpentine belt setup?

If so, you can use the long snout cam, special cam bolt, and washer with the stock magnum timing cover, water pump, pullies, etc.

BUT, you will have to use an electric fuel pump. The magnum setup does not allow you to use a mechanical pump. I'm using a cheap summit racing fuel pump and regulator.
