Anyone here have any experience with the new Edelbrock AVS2 carburetor. I need a new one and want the make the best choice for my 273 Commando build.
 
Yep have used two of them and they were great right of the box. Just adjusted idle speed and mixture. Nice street carb. You'll want the 650 for a 273. You will need a few linkage adapters to make it work though. No big deal really.

Thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. Will they work with a drop base air cleaner?
 
Yes but I got one with the bump in it to clear the linkage. I don't think you would need it though. Would depend on how much drop up have on the air cleaner base.
 
Researching the AVS2 I can get a 500 CFM OR 650 CFM. I know the calculators will advise the 500 but will I suffer performance or other loss if I put the 650 CFM model on my Commando built 273?
 
You will always be happier with a carburetor that's a tad too small than one a tad too large. Just food for thought.
 
RRR, I agree and I wish the 500 wasn't $50.00 more than the 650. You might want to take another look at our conversation to see the latest. I think you will find it interesting.

You guy's are correct. I didn't know that they had released the 500cfm in the AVS2. I might have gone that route but at the time the 650 was the smallest one that was out. It worked good though.

That's even better. I didn't get that far on the Summit site to see that model. The 390 that you have will work but it really wasn't designed for that application. Slant 6 or dual quad tunnel ram yes. A 500 would be perfect and I think the 650 with the efficiencies of the AVS2 would work well also. They are designed for a street (not race) carb with efficiency in mind. Just my take. Anybody close to Desert Rat that has a 1406 he could bolt on and try? I have one but the condition is unknown. Shipping it to you to try would cost $50-$75 for a round trip.
 
Well I couldn't stand the pressure and just ordered the 500 cfm AVS2 with the insulating base and banjo fuel inlet. The Holley carburetor on the car was never going to be correct for my car and I bit the bullet and bought the Eddy. Looking forward to getting the car correctly tuned and running. Thanks to all who helped with my dilemma.

Although you won't need it, I wish you luck. Please keep us posted on this thread when you get it installed. Bolt it down, hook it up, squirt some gas down the bowl vents and fire that baby up!

If it works well I might have to sell off mine and get myself one.
 
I will be going with a pair of 1904's once I get my 360 assembled. Don't really need a choke in the SF-bay area.

I have the 5488 model intake, so I had to get some spherical washers and clean up around the bolt holes so it will fit on a non 64-65 LA blocks. It's going on my 360.
I went through the same thing on that Edelbrock 2X4 since it is also for the earlier engines.
I had about a half dozen people brown beating me it not to “Butcher” the intake. LMAO It really pissed me off. As if I’d do a hack job but then again, I’ll do a hack job just to piss you off. LMAO!!!!
I said, Fine, find me the correct one and I won’t modify it.

Never heard from the snowflakes again.

Out of curriosity,is there enough metal in those runners to port them out to 340/360portsize?

Nowhere near enough. I will have to build up the outsides before hogging them out to 340/360 runner size. I'll look for the thread where I posted up some pics with a 340/360 gasket laid on the flange after I get home tonight.

Its no biggie, a new stainless steel brush, aluminum wire a mig welder, grinder, and a bead blaster for a nice rough original looking finish and it will look almost as good as Daisy Duke.
 
Found it.

Scored Offy dual quad intake for my 392 WEDGE project!

The original plan was to throw this on top of the car's original 318 bored 0.040" and stroked to 4" to give me a 392 WEDGE. but since I am building the 360 now to get me back on the road, I'm just gonna slap it on that. If I still want that 392" displacement, I can always go with a 3.79 stroke with the 360 and a 0.060 bore. I'd get the same displacement with a shorter stroke and that's always good.
