Gathering parts for my fuel system and wondering what some of you guys are using. Previously ran ss braid but notice there are so many options these days. Cost is always a factor but don't mind the extra expense if the benefits are worth it. Building a 470 going into a '73 Dart Swinger. I have a Summit 10 gallon aluminum cell, picked up an Aeromotive A1000 pump that I got a deal on ($285) and a Platinum Series 100 micron inlet filer that I also got a deal on ($60). Plan on the matching Aeromotive return style carb regulator and -10 supply and -8 return hose. Carb will be in the 850 - 950 range. Considered the push lock style for its ease, lightweight and cost - also a nylon style braid but heard it was a bit of a pain to work with ( getting all the loose nylon strands in the fitting collar?). Could always use the ss stuff but wanted a black hose. Any help/advice with any hoses you've used would be appreciated. The car is mainly " street" with an occasional 1/4 mile blast. Thanks in advance. <><

I used summit black braided hose and black an fittings. Went together well, very easy to work with. Just use a cut off wheel, hardly no strands.

Thank you. I looked at that - especially considering I'm running a -10 feed and a -8 return.

Since you mentioned "strip" use, I thought I'd include the current NHRA rules on fuel lines - any Sportsman class.

Lines: All non-OEM fuel lines (including gauge and/or data recorder lines) must be metallic, steel braided, or NHRA accepted
“woven or woven-pushlock.” A maximum of 12 inches total (front to rear) of non-metallic or non-steel braided hose
is permitted for connection purposes only; individual injector nozzle and motorcycle fuel lines are excluded.

Thought about that as well. I saw that Aeroquip has a woven (Kevlar/Nomex) hose, Starlite I think. Again, not familiar with it so if someone has used it, feel free to let a brother know. Thank you.

I may be mistaken but I thought I read a couple descriptions of nylon braided hose being drag race legal? I'll have to do a little more research. By "strip", I mean I may do a test & tune or Friday Night Street Class event now and then.

I saw the buildup of younggun2.0 and love that setup. His inbox is full so I haven't been able to find out what fuel hose he is running. Looking at the fittings, I can almost make out a Summit logo so maybe Summit's nylon braid?

I use stainless-braided PTFE (Teflon) hose. It's smaller in external diameter than the SS rubber and is impervious to all fuels. It does cost a bit more but worth it not to have to ever worry about rubber degrading...

There are accepted fuel inj. hoses-------

Hydraulic hose shop house brand. Cheap and works great with pushlock.

What brand hose and fittings are you using? I saw one brand (Fragola, I think) but reading about how to install the fittings, I think it said you had to slide back the stainless outer covering and trim it off? Thought that sounded a bit "daunting" - I like the fact that it's impervious to most/all fluids but not sure if I want to tackle the fitting install?

Good idea. I work for the fleet maintenance department of a small town and we deal with a local shop quite a bit. May run by there one evening. What is the inner hose made of? Would like at leat a synthetic rubber. Are the pressure and temperature limits similar to the big name hoses? Thank you.

Says it’s for diesel and gas. Looks like a synthetic rubber inside. It is Gates brand. 300psi working pressure.

I mostly buy mine from Summit. It's no harder to install than any braided stainless hose - just wrap it with a couple turns of tape, use a 1/16"-thick cutoff wheel to slice right through it (much easier and quicker than a hacksaw), remove any burrs on the liner with a sharp tool, etc.

I use, and have had excellent results with Earls new line of "UltraPro" series hose and fittings. It is a super flexible, teflon lined hose, impervious to all fuel types. I use the nylon braided they have, beware, it's about 10 bucks a foot. You have to use the "UltraPro" fittings with the "UltraPro" hose. No mix-matching here.

The fittings and hose are all high quality, and if you follow their instructions exactly on how to assemble them, you will not have any problems. I used them for the first time on my build and I have no leaks, seeping lines or fittings.

Earl's UltraPro Series - Holley Performance Products

I also have a return style fuel system for my 530HP smallblock. I used an Aeromotive 20 gallon stealth fuel cell with the 340lph in tank pump, their 100 micron filter, and the 13204 carb bypass regulator.

With that A1000 pump, you might need the $350 electronic fuel pump controller, as they are not designed for constant street driving.

you can kinda see what I did on my build, the last couple of pages.

Thanks for your input. I looked at the Earls hose too - $267 for 20' of -10. Expensive but figured it would last "forever" and handle any fuel. Think I may go with the Fragola SS Teflon lined hose. Cheaper with all the benefits - just not black. They do have a black rubber coated version but almost twice as much. Btw, I checked out your build - very nice work! Love your attention to detail. <><

I'll have to look into the fuel controller setup. The Summit add stated "designed for your daily driver or race vehicle". It'll be a return system with the Aeromotive 13204 regulator. Thought about doing a Fitech or Sniper EFI setup "down the road" and wanted the fuel system to be able to handle that also.

O'Reilly carries the Gates Barricade high pressure rubber fuel hose. It will hold I think it's 225 PSI. Make sure you get the hose off the DARK GREEN spool. The light green is just the regular pressure Barricade hose. It's not as strong. I think it's like 3.79 a foot over the counter. Beats the hell outta braided price and it WORKS.

Thank you. Is it available in a -10 size and what AN fittings are compatible?

......uh.....no.....but if I wouldn't mind if I had to get clearance for launch from NASA when I take it to the track! : D Aeromotive recommends -10 feed and -8 return - who am I to argue???

Thanks for all the help. I generally research all ("best"/affordable) options beforehand and have a pretty good idea. I just like having input and advice from others to make sure I haven't missed anything. I don't have many car guys (and zero MOPAR guys) to talk to about this stuff and appreciate everyone's time, knowledge, experience and willingness to share. MOPAR to ya! <><
