Hi are any of you guys running the xe285hl cam? Just wondering what it will sound and run like ?
 
HaHa it's still going to sound the same or very close and like I said it was the first thing that came up, I just wanted to see what would come up. It was better than saying it sounds like this thumpity thump. LOL
 
You put that in a 273 and it will sound like a top fueler. Put it in a 408 and you wish you had one bigger. In a big block it sounds completely different.

I ran a couple 273's back in the days when I was a kid, one had a DC 500 lift 292 dur solid lifter and some nice valve springs, that thing sounded awesome,
That's when I learned about push rods. LOL
 
Well plans are to put in a 360 with 107kbs and 63cc eddy heads dougs headers and a 750 double pumper
 
It sounds like this at 800rpm in a 410" with 1-5/8" headers, Flowmaster 40's and 2-1/2" exhaust.



And this at about 4500rpm...

That sounds good I'm still debating weather or not to stroke it.
 
I agree Iam just a little concerned about my compression I think it is going to come out at 11.2 so just looking for a little more cylinder bleed off if I'm thinking right my 360 block is zero decked with kb107and 63cc heads really want to get it right the first time any input on this would be great. I have also been thinking about stroking it and getting different pistons and lower the compression some options for both ways would be appreciated

0 deck .039 gasket is 10.75
high 60 low 70 degree intake closing will run great on pump gas. 240ish @ .050 intake duration

Yep, I agree; I get SCR = 10.65, with the same head gasket. DCR end sup around 8.2 for that cam at an ICL of 106. Should be runnable on pump premium; take care in tuning.

That is all at sea level.

What elevation are you at OP? If up at 3000' then DCR drops over half a point, so you might want to re-think if that is the case, depending on what you want to do with this. What is the planned use of this engine?
 
Street car for sure 3:91 rear end and Iam at 2500 feet elevation thanks for the info

OK; I corrected my DCR numbers above so re-check. I had put in the wrong duration. That and 2500' elevation puts you at 7.7 effective DCR. So ought to be pretty torquey and take off pretty darned good with that 3.91. I don't think you have too much SCR by any means.

'Run good' is somewhat hard to target..... Run good on the drag strip and run good around corners are 2 different things. I was thinking a 274 or 278 might be better IF you are doing a lot of powering out of corners on back roads. But, I keep forgetting that 3.91 gear....
 
I would not use 750 double pumper on the street if I had to buy the gas
that 285 is a big cam for a 360 so it needs the compression you are going for but also gears and converter depending on how and where you are going to drive it you have 3.91 so you should be ok for hot rod use ?converter?
IDK about a drive to work daily driver.. it's going to be soft getting going even with the gears
If you need crank work and rod work and pistons then a stroker makes sense more torque more driveability
top end power is in the heads so no change there- and top end power is overated for a street build- you don't get there very often
what rockers? if roller tip price in a B3 kit and then 274 with 1.6 makes sense or go solid lifters like thousands of 273's- works fine

I'm going to go roller rockers and solid lifters I was going to stick with 1:5 ratio and run a 2500 rpm converter I also have a 670 Holley vacuum secondary's and I have been reading about the efi systems. Maybe that's the way to go idk

Which 670 Holley do you have? If it's a street avenger, I'd keep it on the shelf. I tried one on my 340 and it ran like crap. For engines with a bit of camshaft, the idle circuits are way too lean on those carbs. You'll have to open up the idle feed restrictors to keep it from bogging down. The 750dp will be a better carb for the motor IMO.

It is a street avenger I also have a edelbrock can't remember what cfm it is I think it is a 750. I don't really like them as well as a Holley
